A Warm Welcome to all Parishioners and Visitors

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sundays: Cycle A Weekdays: Year II 6th September 2020

As many of you know I have just come back from the Lakes where I have been going for fifteen or so years now, looking after the Weekend Masses in two parishes to enable the Parish priest himself to get away for a break. This time I had a real boost. Two or three parishioners come up to me and said, ‘Oh Father John, we do so love it when you come to us for these two weeks each summer.’ What a boost, and a real lift! We all need it in our lives, to feel appreciated.

Do take a look at our second reading for this weekend. St Paul begins by saying, ‘Avoid getting into debt, except the debt of mutual love. If you love your fellow men, you have carried out your obligations.’ And later, ‘Love is the one thing that cannot hurt your neighbour.’ Perhaps this week, each of us could try to give someone a real boost of encouragement by our words. As I said before, we all need it.

God bless you all,

Father John

CHANGES TO MASS TIMES, NUMBERS AND PRIVATE PRAYER

We have been monitoring the situation regarding our Masses and private prayer times, and the findings are to change a few things here at St Ann’s, but still within the safety guidelines of the Dioceses.

There will be no more private prayer on Tuesdays and Fridays, instead the Church will open half an hour before each Mass for private prayer.

Sunday: Church opens at 9.30am, Mass will Follow at 10.00am.

Tuesday: Church opens at 5.30pm, Mass will follow at 6.00pm.

Friday: Church opens at 11.30am, Mass follows at 12 noon.

From Sunday 11th October we will be adding in an extra Mass at 8.30am. We will again monitor attendance.

Mass Times from 11th October

Sunday: 8.30 am Mass

10.00 am Mass

Tuesday: 6.00 pm Mass

Friday: 12 noon Mass

We have recalculated our numbers for seats at Mass and we have capacity for 38 parishioners attending on their own from separate households.

This of course can be much higher if we have family’s and couples from the same household/bubble.

To enable us to allocated benches correctly, to a maximum safe capacity, it is important that you book your places for Mass via email each week,

The office is open, Monday 9am to 3pm, Wednesday 10am to 2.00pm & Friday 9am to 3pm. If you email at these times you will get an immediate response to your booking, if you email outside of these times you will get a reply on the next day the office is open. If you cannot email, please call the parish office.

We know this is not how we all want this to be and lets all pray that soon things will change, and we can return to Church as we once did. We are all trying to do our best in this difficult and strange situation, so please respect the guidance of the stewards, above all, please be patient, we want to do the best we can to enable you to be at Mass again. so, be kind and understanding to us and to each other.

A thanks to all those who already steward, but we are always looking for stewards for Mass, because without you we cannot open safely, so if you can help please contact the parish office at, [email protected]

BRIDGID GANNON RIP

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Bridgid Gannon who died this week, please keep her son Adrian, her daughter in law Medea and grandson Anthony in your prayers.

Bridgid was known fondly to many of us as a friend and long standing parishioner of St Ann’s Church, and Adrian would like to invite parishioners to Bridgid’s requiem Mass on Friday 25th September at 12.30 pm and then following on to East Surrey crematorium at 2.00pm for the cremation.

As you all know sadly we are restricted to numbers at this time, so on behalf of the family we are asking those from the parish that would like to attend to contact the parish office, to reserve a seat, so we can monitor numbers. When you email could you also specify if you will be attending both the requiem Mass and crematorium or if it is just one, then which of these it would be.

A MESSAGE FROM FR JOHN

Recently one or two people have been concerned, about; 1, the low number of Masses and 2, about having to leave the Church after Communion instead of the normal way. Please be assured that everything we do is for your safety. We can only increase the Masses when there is reason to do so, and enough volunteers come forward to clean the Church afterwards.

Many of you will know Fr Peter, Fr Simon, and Fr Giandomenico, from St Dunstan’s parish, in Woking, which is the largest parish in the diocese. Regarding Communion, we are doing exactly the same as them, at the end of Mass. This is the safest way for us all.

SECONDARY SCHOOL FORM SIGNING

Fr John will be signing secondary school forms in the hall on Wedneday 16th September & Thursday 17th September at 6.00pm. Please bring along all forms and the child you are appling for must be with you. Please be mindful of socail distancing as much as possible while you are waiting.

Many thanks.

BANSTEAD COMBINED CHARITIES CHRISTMAS EVENT

Banstead Community Association is again hosting the annual Combined Charities Christmas Event, which will be held in the Banstead Community Hall, Park Road, Banstead, SM7 3AJ on SATURDAY, 3rd OCTOBER 2020 from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm.

At least 10 national or local charities will have stalls selling their Christmas cards, calendars, and other gift items. It provides an opportunity to find out more about the work of the charities, meet the volunteers who give their time willingly to support good causes and stock up with cards well before Christmas.

Light refreshments will be on sale and there will be a raffle. The hall has a large free car park and the entry fee will be only 20p per person. In these difficult times, the safety of both charity volunteers and our visitors will be a priority. Numbers in the hall will be limited, hand sanitisers will be available, a one-way circulation system will be in place and 2m spacing will be imposed. Visitors will be asked to wear face-coverings and give contact details.
