CHAPTER I

PREFACE

I.1 Background

Potentiometric method is an analytical method which determines the

volumetric titration end point by comparing the electric current voltage

curves. This analysis is based on the measurement of electrical voltage

changes during the titration of a solution of unknown his cell potential

(Pudjaatmaka, 2002)

Basic voltage reading on the instrument using a potentiometric

specific electrode can be derived from the equation of the electrochemical

Nemst law, because the E ° is a constant, then the price of E is directly

proportional to the logarithm of the concentration of F (Djawaliiri M.H, 1995).

Nernst equation yields a relationship between cell emf and the

concentration of reactants and products in conditions that are not state

standard (Chang, 2004).

Nernst equation is a relationship that states the potential difference

generated in an electrochemical cell as a function of temperature and

concentration as well as the partial pressure of the reactants and products

(Oxtoby, 2003).

In this practice method used is precisely potentiometric titration

acid-base titration, to determine the end point of a titration curve by

making the potential outcome of comparison cells measured using a

potentiometer with the addition titers volume.

I.2 Formulation Of The Problem

How to determine the equivalence point of the neutralization

reaction and the final concentration of 0.09 N H2SO4 solution; 0.08 and

NaOH O, 08 N; 0.06 N using the potentiometric method?

I.3 Objective Experiment

The purpose of this experiment is to determine the equivalence

point of the neutralization reaction and to determine a final concentration
