R-Value and Long Term Thermal Resistance

Long Term Thermal Resistance (LTTR), effective January 1, 2014 with the change in ASTM C1289, is defined as the value of insulation measured after storage for five years under a controlled environ-ment. The aged value is equivalent to the time-weighted average over 15 years. The previous R-Value was determined by a 6 month conditioning report. Babcock-Davis suggest that design professionals use LTTR/inch as a “design specification”.
