SPRING  AND  SUMMER  2014  TREND  COVERAGE:  DENIM  

For  our  first  installment  of  the  Spring  and  Summer  Denim  guide,  we  will  be  covering  OVERALLS.  No,  not  your  middle  school  overalls,  where  they  are  oversized  and  oh-­‐so-­‐unflattering.  This  season,  with  the  release  of  new  technology  (think  more  stretch),  new  washes  (white,  bleached,  leopard  print),  and  fun,  new  styling  tricks  (rolled  hem,  layers),    Babe  Style  will  have  you  dying  to  experiment  with  the  Overall  Trend  this  year!    

The Destructed Overall by Altar’d State:  Bring  back  that  casual  look  with  these  new  overalls.  The  ripped  knees  and  pockets  on  the  bib  add  a  little  edge.

Free People “Stephens Relaxed Overall”, $168

I  first  saw  OVERALLS  pop  up  while  unpacking  shipment  at  Altar’d  State.  Then,  again  at  some  of  my  favorite  shopping  sites:  LULU’S,  Nasty  Gal,  Free  People,  American  Eagle,  and  Luxe  Apothetique.      Nasty Gal went  crazy  with  their  renditions  of  the  classic  style,  with  silk  floral/animal  prints,  pleather  and  distressed  styles.  LULU’s.com  followed  suit  with  experimentation  of  fabrications,  with  denim  stripes  and  prints  then  expanded  them  into  shorts  similarly  to  Free  People.    I  personally  find  Free People  to  have  achieved  the  best  styling  of  the  OVERALL  trend.  Easy  layering  with  crochet  and  printed  silk  ponchos,  natural  wavy  hair,  minimalist  arm  bands,  and  leather  boots.      My  suggestion,  jump  on  the  Free  People  band-wagon  and  achieve  success  with  easy  dressing.  Don’t  try  to  mix  too  many  bulky  fabrics  and  patterns.  Denim  is  still  considered  a  heavy  weight  fabric;  adding  heavy  layers  will  just  add  pounds  to  your  visual  weight.  Your  best  bet,  stick  with  light-­‐weight  layering  pieces.    

FOR  A  CASUAL  DAY  OUT:    TAKE  A  CUE  FROM  THE  CELEBRITIES  BY  PAIRING  YOUR  OVERALLS  WITH  SIMPLE  TOPS  AND  A  FEW  KEY  STYLING  TRICKS.  

TRICKS:  ROLLING  UP  THE  HEM  TO  THE  THINNEST  PART  OF  YOUR  ANKLE  OR  SHIN  HAS  A  SLIMMING  EFFECT,  PLUS  IT  WILL  SHOW  OF  YOUR  CUTE  SHOES!
