Attached below is a heat map for 2017 based off motor vehicle theft incident reports. The Pueblo Police Department will continue to highlight this crime with the overall goal of working with the community by creating awareness of this growing problem. A stolen vehicle may be used to aid in the commission of other serious crimes and has become a real danger. With the communitys help, together we can decrease the number of auto thefts and related crimes in the city. We ask that all community members review and follow these auto theft crime prevention tips to assist in reducing the chances of becoming a victim. MVT CRIME PREVENTION TIPS: Be cognizant of where you park and the opportunity it may provide to criminals. Do not leave your car running unattended (without an automatic starting system). Dont leave spare keys or try to hide keys in your vehicle, the criminals know where to look. Do not leave items of value or perceived items of value in your car to attract criminals. Report suspicious activity to police, such as suspicious vehicles and people. Purchase an anti-theft steering wheel lock and/or pedal lock device and use it. Consult with a mechanic on installing a detachable steering wheel. Consult with a mechanic on installing a hidden kill switch. Purchase a GPS tracking device to assist with recovery. Dont leave garage door openers in your car. If you have an alarm, please be sure to use it. Purchase alarm stickers for your windows. Lock your doors and roll up your windows If anyone has any information regarding auto thefts, you are urged to submit a tip.
