The British Academy of Film and Television Arts - BAFTA - is proud of its expert membership of approximately 6,500 individuals in the UK and the US and of its vast collective experience across film, television and games. BAFTA identifies, rewards and celebrates excellence at its internationally renowned annual Awards ceremonies, while providing many opportunities for the public - as well as industry practitioners and emerging talent - to find information and inspiration through its year-round programme of events, initiatives and activities.

Based in London and Abu Dhabi, the Emicapital Foundation supports education and cultural interchange between the Arab Gulf and the World. Our cross-border educational programs cover the whole spectrum of the Fine Arts, connecting fresh talent to seasoned experience.

We are delighted to welcome you to our third annual Film Gala sponsored by Emicapital, to raise further funds for BAFTA’s charitable initiatives and to bring together our friends from both within and outside of the fi lm industry.

Thanks to your generosity over the last two years, BAFTA has been able to deliver a host of initiatives, including providing scholarships, hosting a series of masterclasses and events for emerging talent.

As we enter a hugely exciting year for BAFTA, there is still so much more that we want to do. With your support, we want to connect more young people with some of the best fi lm, television and games makers, to inspire and guide their careers in the industries.

All of the money raised this evening will enable us to help a wealth of new and emerging talent through groundbreaking initiatives, to ensure that we continue to produce the very best creative work.

Provide a bursary for young talent to attend Guru Live

At Guru Live, our three-day event for emerging talent in fi lm, television and games, specially chosen delegates will gain access to a bespoke programme of one-to-ones and round tables, bringing them face to face with industry talent, key funders, producers and talent managers. They are also given a ‘golden ticket’ to the full programme of key notes and masterclasses as well as the provision of travel, ticket and accommodation bursaries.

In 2017, we hope to provide bursaries to as many Guru Pros as possible – it costs £100 to fund one bursary and we have a target of 50 through the Film Gala.

Support a BAFTA Film Gala scholarship

BAFTA’s Scholarships Programme awards students in need of fi nancial assistance to take a post-graduate course related to a career in fi lm, television or games. We also offer a range of global scholarships annually, with programmes in the UK, USA and China. BAFTA Scholars receive funds towards course fees, mentoring support from a BAFTA member, and free access to BAFTA events. Scholarship recipients take part in BAFTA’s outreach to young people and share their learning experiences on BAFTA Guru, BAFTA’s online learning channel.

In 2017, we hope to fund our fi rst BAFTA Film Gala scholarships – our target tonight is to raise £12,000 for each of these, including scholarships for Film, Television, Games and Crew.

Daisy Jacobs, an animator, grew up in a single-parent household in Gosport in Hampshire. She was awarded a BAFTA scholarship in 2012 and developed a close working relationship with her mentor, Tristan Oliver. Daisy went on to win a BAFTA for Best Short Animation and be nominated for an Oscar for her short fi lm “The Bigger Picture” and now mentors younger animators.

Lord Dalmeny Chairman, Harry joined Sotheby’s in 1991, initially working in the Old Master, Furniture and Silver departments. In 1993, he joined the House Sales department before becoming a Director in 1999. He was appointed Chairman of Sotheby’s Olympia in February 2003 and is now an integral part of the Chairman’s offi ce at New Bond Street.

Harry is one of Sotheby’s Senior Auctioneers and has presided over many of our most prestigious and demanding auctions including Mark Birley: The Private Collection (£3.9 million) in March 2013; 1000 Ways of Seeing: The Private Collection of the late Stanley J. Seeger (£7.4 million) in March 2014; The Hesketh Estate (£15.4 million) in December 2014; The Duchess:

Property & Precious Objects from the Estate of Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe (£3.7 million) in May 2015, and the sale of Gianni Versace’s Lake Como collection, which lasted for an astounding 12 hours and achieved £7.4 million against a pre-sale low estimate of £1.7 million in 2009.

Harry also serves as auctioneer for many of our high-profi le specialist sales such as Treasures and Modern British Art.

In addition, Harry is one of our most highly sought after charity auctioneers and has helped raise funds for numerous high-profi le charities including Macmillan, NSPCC, Human Rights Watch, BFI, and The National Youth Theatre, to name a few, raising over £5.5 million for charitable causes in 2015 alone.
