nicola drought levelraised a notch
For the first time since the nicola Wa-tershed Community Round Table erectedthe drought level indicator on the VoghtSt. hill in 2011, the marker has beenmoved from ‘normal’ to ‘dry’.
The BC River Forecast Centre raisedthe drought level last week in the entiresouthern BC interior. They say because ofextremely low snowpacks and weatherprojections for warmer & drier than nor-mal conditions in upcoming months,some regions will likely experience sig-nificant water supply shortages this year.
At this point, regions most at risk forfuture water supply shortages are Van-couver Island, South Coast, LowerFraser, and Southern Interior, but couldalso include other regions as the seasonprogresses. They encourage communi-ties, agriculture, and other water users toplan for potential future shortages.

Cisco Road wildfireLast evening, fire crews were still re-
porting active fire behaviour on the CiscoRoad wildfire, south of Lytton. It morethan doubled in 4 hours, from 600hectares at 4pm to 1,300 hectares at 8pm.Crews saw ‘rank 5’ fire behaviour at thehead of the fire yesterday afternoon, andan evacuation alert & order were issuedfor nearby First nations communities.The 40-60km/hr wind gusts lessenedovernight, and are forecasted to be 10-20km/hr today. 20 firefighters remainedonsite overnight. Wind currents carriedthe smoke over Merritt into the Kam-loops, Vernon and Penticton Fire Zones.
