Bainbridge High School Alumni Banquet – 2019
June 29, 2019 @ Bainbridge, IN Community Bldg.
Bainbridge High School Class of 1969 at the Bainbridge H.S. Alumni Banquet held on June 29,
2019 in the Bainbridge Community Building. It was part of the 50 year graduation
anniversary celebration for the class.
Seated in front (L-R) are: Deb Bunn, Janet Lents Clampitt, Deb Alcorn Lanie, Carol Evens McFarland, Jerry
Garrett and Larry Wilson. Standing in middle row (L-R) are: class faculty sponsor Pat Rady, Patricia Rossok

The Bainbridge High School (BHS) class of 1959 was recognized for their 60th graduation anniversary at the recent BHS Alumni banquet held in Bainbridge. Those attending from the class of 1959 include: (L-R) Mike Blue, Bill Nicholson, Gene Beck, Judy Clodfelter
Rainey, Elizabeth Luther, Waneta Wysong Cosler, Delbert Smith, Daniel Detro, Maria Tracy Kiger, Mary Jayne
McGuire Henderson, Wally Estes and Estel Cooper. Attending the banquet, but not available for the photo, was
Janet Albin O’Hair. See photo below.
Maria Tracy Kiger made the introductions and the response for the ’59 class.

1949 and told a few stories about his class.
Thursa Etcheson Evens (BHS 1945) shared
greetings from the Bainbridge Improvement
Society (BIS) that operates the Bainbridge
Community Building.

Rick Johnston “The
Bearded Painter”
shared his story
about how a recent
medical crisis and
rehab provided an
avenue for him to
realize his hidden
artistic talents during
therapy.
His daughter Lauren
was the winner of the
second BHS Alumni
Scholarship in 2016.
He stressed his deep appreciation and the vital importance of the scholarship due to his
medical issues and not being able to work.
In response, he painted pictures of the old Bainbridge High School building and the mascot
Pointer dog ‘Clem.’ Both paintings were given to the BHS Alumni Association Scholarship
Committee to be used with fund raising efforts during the “Share the Dream” promotion by
the Putnam County Community Foundation. They have been framed and will be on
permanent display in the Bainbridge Community Building.
The paintings have been a catalyst in raising a good deal of money for the BHS Alumni
Scholarship endowment.

Special 60 year
anniversary recognition
of the members of the
BHS 1958-59 regional
champion and
undefeated regular
season basketball team,
coaches, manager and
cheerleaders was part of
the recent Bainbridge
High School Alumni
Banquet program.

Don Jeffries, assistant coach Richard Crawley along with Cathy Longfellow Szklarek and
Jenny Longfellow who represented their father, the late Ed Longfellow who coached the
team. In back are (L-R) Gary Cooper representing his late brother Lyle Cooper who played
on the team and player Jeff Blue. Not available for the photo, but attending the banquet,
was Sandy Skelton, who represented her late husband, Ronnie Skelton, who was a
cheerleader for the team. (See photo below.) Other players not able to attend the banquet
were Mike O’Hair, Robert Gilley, Dick Judy and two deceased teammates Bill Harshbarger
and Jim Shoaf.

12 members and representatives from the 1958-59 BHS basketball team honored
Coach Pat Rady was presented a replica copy of a Bainbridge street sign by BHS
Alumni president Deb Alcorn Lanie and vice president Carolyn Roth Hiser. US Highway 36 in
Bainbridge was renamed “Pat Rady Way” by the Town of Bainbridge a few years ago.

The Class of 1964 had the most classmates present with 13 for the alumni banquet other
than the 1969 honored class. The ’64 classmates attending included: (seated L-R) Linda
Jackman Barnett, Becky Scobee Voss, Linda McCarty Everts, Kathy Derringer Coffin, Jackie
Minnick Fowler and Susie Clark Anderson. In second row are (L-R) Lyle Underwood, Don
Albin, Gary Canada, Carl Ferrand, Dick Smith and Alan Ader. In back is Steve Winters.

Larry Steele from the class of 1967 was recognized as having come the farthest to attend the banquet as he resides in Vernonia, Oregon. Thursa Etcheson Evens of rural Bainbridge, from the class of 1945, was honored as the graduate from the earliest class represented. Contributions to the BHS Alumni scholarship fund in honor of Larry and Thursa have been made by the BHS Alumni Association.
The Games, Tippin and O’Hair families tied with the most siblings present, three, from the
same family that attended BHS. The Games family members present were: Linda Games
Stark of Crawfordsville, class of 1957; Marilene Games Frederick of Jamestown, class of 1955
and Charles Games of Plainfield, class of 1955. The Tippin family included Howard Tippin of
Greencastle, class of 1954; Margaret Tippin Kessinger of Bainbridge, class of 1956 and
Joanne Tippin Walker of Fairland, class of 1965. The three O’Hair siblings attending were
Michael T. O’Hair of Kokomo, class of 1962; Marilyn O’Hair Winters of Greencastle, class of
1965 and Dennis O’Hair of rural Greencastle, class of 1969. Photos not available.
