BAKEWELL MARKET Monday 14 th June Despite the good harvesting weather, a respectable entry of stock was forward totalling 577 cattle and 967 sheep with a robust trade in all sections. 280 Store Cattle together with 71 Breeding Stock continued to sell at recent strong rates, with a good trade for all offer. Top prices of £1195 for Steers, £1180 for Heifers and Cows with Calves at foot to £1960. 97 Finished Cattle followed a similar trend being in keen demand with Heifers to 268p/kg and grossing £1608 with Steers to 252p/kg and a total top price of £1701. A reduced entry of OTM Cattle saw those forward rewarded with respectable returns to tops of 198p/kg and £1475. A further increase in calf numbers also sold at recent strong prices with a B Blue bull to a top of £450. Spring Lamb numbers continue to increase with a very respectable average at 315p/kg, well up on last year with ewes again in keen demand to £154 and returning an average of just over £104 per head.

Despite the good harvesting weather, a respectable entry of stock was forward totalling 577 cattle and 967 sheep with a robust trade in all sections. 280 Store Cattle together with 71 Breeding Stock continued to sell at recent strong rates, with a good trade for all offer. Top prices of £1195 for Steers, £1180 for Heifers and Cows with Calves at foot to £1960. 97 Finished Cattle followed a similar trend being in keen demand with Heifers to 268p/kg and grossing £1608 with Steers to 252p/kg and a total top price of £1701. Top 11 over 170p with plenty more 150-170p. 22 Black & White and ex-dairy cows Ave 124.1p/kg Actually, dearer on the week with the majority of today’s plainer sorts. Two lovely Friesian Cows from Messrs Webster sold at 161p or £1207 and 158p or a remarkable £1475. Plain start from the parlour cows generally 100-120p.
