Parents/Guardians, Last spring during our parent teacher conferences, we asked parents to utilize the website www.schoolbookings.net to schedule times to meet with their student’s teachers. Our parent response was very positive. Scheduling times with teachers significantly cut down on wait times and allowed parents to book times according to a schedule that worked for them. For this falls parent teacher conferences, please see the information below for conference schedule and booking directions: Conference Schedule Tuesday, November 1 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, November 3 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, November 7 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Booking Directions You will need to know your child(ren)'s schedule and his/her teachers for each class. COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD

~ ENERGIZING OUR WORLD SATURDAY - Grand Valley State University and the Regional Math and Science Center are excited to inform you of a one-day camp being offered on October 22, 2016 for middle school students. Energizing Our World Saturday is a one-day camp program designed to introduce students currently in grades 6th through 8th to the power of renewable energy. During Energizing Our World, students will rotate in groups through fun and engaging activities facilitated by Grand Valley University faculty. For instance, participants will learn how we can utilize the power of the sun, the ability for water to make energy, and much more!

The camp will be held at GVSU’s Allendale Campus and will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 9am-3pm. The cost of the camp is $10 and includes a T-shirt, lunch, and snacks. Financial assistance is available for students based on need. Interested students can go online to http://www.gvsu.edu/rmsc/energy to register. Additional registration forms can be copied or printed from the website. The deadline for registration is September 28, 2016.

~ Pumpkin Palooza! - You're invited to join us for a free family event on October 29 from 1-3pm at Jamestown Lower Elementary. Bring your family, friends and neighbors for carnival games, costume contest, donuts, cider and of course, lots of candy!

~ Community Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016, GUMchurch (Georgetown United Methodist) invites all community families to a Harvest Festival. There will be seasonal activities, games, prizes, and snacks! Costumes are welcome (but no gore or scary costumes, please!). This event is free and open to the entire community. Harvest Festival is sponsored by the GUMchurch Nex-Gen Ministries. GUMchurch is located at 2766 Baldwin Street in Jenison, at the southeast corner of Baldwin and 28th Street. For more info, visit www.GUMonline.org or call 616-669-0730.

~ Ottawa County Prescription Drug and Opiate Taskforce and local law enforcement agencies will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. The Drug Take Back Event sites cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches. Bring your pills for disposal to one of these sites:

Holland – Department of Public Health, 12251 James St (Building C lobby)

Grand Haven – Grand Haven Township Office, 13300 168th Ave

Hudsonville – Ottawa County Building, 3100 Port Sheldon Rd

GVSU – Police Department Office, 1011 Service Building

Zeeland – Zeeland Police Department, 29 W Main St

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends. Citizens are advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—pose potential safety and health hazards. Those unable to attend the Drug Take Back events are encouraged to go to the Department of Public Health/Environmental Health website for information about medication disposal sites throughout the county. www.miOttawa.org/MedDisposal
