Bamboo a sustainable source for raw material :
• Bamboo clump establish in 2-3 years.
• Thick shoots produced from 3rd year onwards
• Harvestable in 4th year
• After each harvest, culms emerge and again ready for harvesting in 3 years.

FurnitureIndia imports Furniture worth 3.5 billion $annually and Export worth 1.65 billion $annually (global share 0.6 %)(President, Federation of All India Timber Merchants, Saw millers and Allied Industries)
• China 96.4 billion $ annually (global share 37.5 %) 2018
• Bamboo and rattan sector of India isestimated around Rs. 300 billion, in whichrattan has a lion’s share and most produceare being consumed in domestic sector.
• Furniture sector has immense opportunity toboost utilization of bamboo. Growth rate is12 %. Bamboo offers fancy alternative to thissector.
• By removing bottle-necks, suitable rawmaterials and incorporating innovation, Rs.100 billion is achievable targets by 2024.
Factors for inclusion of Bamboo in Furniture Sector
•Easy legislation for supply of raw material- One Nation One Permit•Skill enhancement: Collaboration for training with furniture council of India and Furniture and Fitting council •Efficient machines: Business to business and government to government collaboration•Inclusion of contemporary design•Quality testing for furniture durability and fire-retardants and international testing standards• Designs with hybrid material gives better alternatives

Phytosterols in bamboo shoots help in controlling mutation and decreasing the risk of cancer. Bamboo shoots possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Bamboo Shoots Desheathed (1&2); Sliced (3&4), Shredded (5-6), Pickled (7) and Canned (8)
Bamboo shoots are listed as an uterotonic plant that increases uterine contractions and they are used as a medicinal supplement for a pending delivery in the last month of pregnancy.Due to the high level of potassium content in bamboo shoots, they are recommended for maintaining and reducing blood pressure.
Bamboo products like mat board, panels, strips, claddings, floor tiles, lumber, scrimber and orient strand board (OSB) are already being used in housing and construction sector.
Rayon Grade Pulp
Challenges being faced by Industries (GRASIM Ind. and Lalkuan Paper and Pulp)Scaling down of silica in bamboo to 100 PPM them the raw material would be very suitable. Possible by use of suitable species and raw materialsLogistics: Transportation of bamboo cost double than hardwoods. Technology intervention by improving process.
Our research results shows in fresh bamboo shoots amount of silicon varied across the species and in range of 1900 ppm to 700 ppm. It is possible to reduce silica in bamboo equal to hardwood.
