WHY SOLAR ENERGY?• We chose Solar energy because it seemed interesting and we wanted to do more research

explaining how solar energy is formed and brainstorming ideas to keeping our planet clean.

WHAT TYPE OF ENERGY IS IT?

• Solar energy is a renewable energy, it uses energy and light to provide heat, light, hot water, electricity and cooling for homes.

HOW WE USE SOLAR ENERGY

The suns light contain energy. When light makes contact with an object the energy turns into heat, but when light hits certain materials the energy turns into electrical current instead.

WHERE DOES SOLAR ENERGY COME FROM?

• Solar energy comes from the lowest point of the sun. The sun is a hot ball of hydrogen and helium. Due to fission reaction of hydrogen molecules, energy is emitted which is known as solar energy. The sun bears a constant stream of thermonuclear explosions as hydrogen atoms are merged into helium atoms. The sun is like a humongous power station that constantly does a reaction that lets out light.

• Solar energy is possible anywhere on earth where the sun shines. It is usually used in homes as a source of electricity.

• Disadvantages

• Solar energy is only available when the sun is shining.

• Its low efficiency, requiring large areas of land

• Its not completely free of environmental impact

• Some people have solar panels on their roof & they’re responsible for cleaning it once a year.

• Advantages

• Solar cells are long lasting sources of energy which can be anywhere

• Solar cells provide solutions to energy problems in places where there is no main electricity

• Solar cells are silent and non-polluting

• They have a long life time and could be installed on roofs which means no new space is needed.
