MR HARRY – Thank you
All parents are welcome to join us for the afternoon assembly where the BRPS community will thank Mr
Habib Mansour (Harry) for his years of service.
The school will also create an archway leading out to the Banksia Road gate where the BRPS community
may personally thank Mr Harry for all that he has done.
EXTERNAL VALIDATION
Last Wednesday we met with an external panel and
went through the process of external validation. I am pleased to say the panel agreed with every one of our
on balance judgements which were, excelling (the highest rating) in three of the elements and sustaining and growing (the middle rating) in the other eleven
elements. This is a celebration of the collective work of our entire
school community and something we should be very proud of.
STAFFING UPDATE On behalf of the entire Banksia Road PS community I
would like to congratulate Mrs Frangakis who after more than 9 years’ service to BRPS was recently successful in
gaining an Instructional Leadership position at Victoria Avenue PS which starts from week 10 this term. This is a temporary position.
Mrs Trish Colley will join the Banksia Road team as the ES1 AP.
Mrs Haidar also finishes up at the end of this week as she is expecting the birth of her first child in the coming weeks. We wish her all the best.

Banksia Road in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition to be held at Lidcombe

STUDENT TO TEACHER FEEDBACK
Feedback was a theme the school community identified as an area to improve after our extensive situation analysis. Most notably student to teacher
feedback.
Stage three students will reflect on their Semester 1 report, starting with social development and
commitment to learning. They will also identify academic strengths and areas to develop. This self-reflection will accompany your child’s report and may
initiate as a discussion starter when discussing the report at home. We will include Year 1 to 6 students
in this process for Semester 2 reports.
SEMESTER 1 REPORTS
Your child’s report will be sent home at the end of this
term. We will schedule GOAL SETTING INTERVIEWS for the week beginning 9th August. In
line with one of our identified themes, ’Parent Engagement’ – we will ask each parent the question:
- How do you think you child is performing
academically?
NCCD
The final three pages of this newsletter provides
information regarding the purpose and process of NCCD (Nationally Consistent Collection of Data) for students
requiring adjustments.

Managing negative behaviour
Being clear about how you expect your children to behave in different situations gives them the ability to
begin judging what’s appropriate on their own. Clarity here can bolster them up to become increasingly more
independent and lessen the amount of retroactive
discipline needed.
• Create expectations using specific language; this doesn’t have to be harsh or even overtly assertive, just clear. Tell them exactly what is
acceptable, rather than simple “be good” or
“behave.”
• When clear expectations are set over time, this builds routine and consistency for your kids.
With boundaries, routine and consistency – they can begin to regulate their own behaviours because they know what to expect in different
settings.
• The more information you give about your
rationale for doing and behaving a certain way, the more they can begin to pre-empt and identify
these reasons for themselves.
• If you find the need to consciously develop new routines; start with small and achievable steps
and communicate clearly what is happening. Remember – routines take time and practice to
understand and learn.
• Don’t forget to model what you expect of your
children by making sure you are always, respectful, rational and self-aware of your own
biases and imperfections

updated curriculum will be covered. Please contact the school if you would like further information.
PSSA and Behaviour
At Banksia Road Public School, our students learning, wellbeing and safety is a high priority. We implement
teaching and learning approaches to support the development of skills needed by students to meet our high standards for safe, respectful and engaged
behaviour.
PBL lessons are taught explicitly to students each day.
The expectations of being a safe, respectful learner at school is essential to enable students to represent
our school at PSSA. Consequences will occur if students are not being safe, respectful or a learner.
The PSSA coaches will also work together with the students to develop and explicitly teach students how
to be a safe, respectful learner on the field/court.
Premiers Spelling Bee
The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as
a fun and educational way for NSW public primary school students to engage in spelling. The program

Spelling Bee School Competition will be held before
the end of the term. Pease stay tuned for the date. Happy Spelling to those that would like to participate.
