Plenary Council 2020 Prayer. Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost. Come, Holy Spirit of the great South Land. O God, bless and unite all your people in Australia and guide us on the pilgrim way of the Plenary Council. Give us the grace to see your face in one another and to recognise Jesus, our companion on the road. Give us the courage to tell our stories and to speak boldly of your truth. Give us ears to listen humbly to each other and a discerning heart to hear what you are saying. Lead your Church into a hope-filled future, that we may live the joy of the Gospel. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, bread for the journey from age to age. Amen. Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us. St Mary MacKillop, pray for us. The Word of God (Gospel) for Today: Journey to Jerusalem (Part 2) This Sunday's gospel begins with two geographical notices. First, Luke indicates that 'Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem' (17:11; see Sunday 13); we will return to the significance of this in a moment. Second, he travelled through Samaria and Galilee. The Greek text reads, 'he travelled through the region between Samaria and Galilee'. Many Bibles translate it as 'along the border between Samaria and Galilee'. Quite literally, the lepers whom Jesus encounters there are marginalised, pushed to the edge; they are in 'no man's land'. While this is true of all lepers, it is particularly true of one of them, later identified as a Samaritan. He is an outcast among outcasts. But just as 'the Good Samaritan' became a model of compassion and service (10:30-37; Sunday 15), the Samaritan in this gospel is a model of faith and gratitude. Jesus is journeying to Jerusalem. In the narrative the apostles, disciples, and crowd have receded to the background. Luke is focusing on Jesus. Just as his journey will end in Jerusalem, this episode ends with Jesus pronouncing that the Samaritan leper has been saved (17:19). The ultimate end of this journey is salvation. Jerusalem is the city where the Saviour accomplishes his mission of salvation. Luke, who has promised his readers an orderly narrative (1:3), prepares for this climax with a presentation of Jesus' ministry in three stages: it begins in Galilee (4:14-9:50), moves south to Samaria (9:51-17:10), and attains its goal in Judea and Jerusalem (17:11-21:38). The events of Jesus' passion and resurrection occupy chapters 23-24. Acts of the Apostles tells the story of the preaching of the gospel which retraces in reverse order this same route: it begins in Jerusalem (Acts 1-7), moves out to Judea and Samaria (Acts 8), reaches Galilee (Acts 9), and will not stop until it reaches the 'ends of the earth' (Acts 1:8) which, in this geographical scheme, is Rome (Acts 23:11; 28:14). This Sunday's episode begins the third and final part of Jesus' 'exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem' (9:20; Lent 2). Plenary Council 2020 Prayer.

Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost. Come, Holy Spirit of the great South Land. O God, bless and unite all your people in

Australia and guide us on the pilgrim way of the Plenary Council. Give us the grace to see your face in one another

and to recognise Jesus, our companion on the road. Give

us the courage to tell our stories and to speak boldly of your truth. Give us ears to listen humbly to each other and

a discerning heart to hear what you are saying. Lead your Church into a

hope-filled future, that we may live the joy of the Gospel. Through Jesus

Christ our Lord, bread for the journey

from age to age. Amen. Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us. St

Mary MacKillop, pray for us.

The Word of God (Gospel) for Today: Journey to Jerusalem (Part 2)

This Sunday's gospel begins with two geographical notices. First, Luke indicates that 'Jesus was on the way to

Jerusalem' (17:11; see Sunday 13); we will return to the significance of this in a moment. Second, he travelled

through Samaria and Galilee. The Greek text reads, 'he

travelled through the region between Samaria and Galilee'. Many Bibles translate it as 'along the border between

Samaria and Galilee'. Quite literally, the lepers whom Jesus encounters there are marginalised, pushed to the edge;

they are in 'no man's land'. While this is true of all lepers, it is particularly true of one of them, later identified as a

Samaritan. He is an outcast among outcasts. But just as

'the Good Samaritan' became a model of compassion and service (10:30-37; Sunday 15), the Samaritan in this gospel

is a model of faith and gratitude.

Jesus is journeying to Jerusalem. In the narrative the

apostles, disciples, and crowd have receded to the background. Luke is focusing on Jesus. Just as his journey

will end in Jerusalem, this episode ends with Jesus pronouncing that the Samaritan leper has been saved

(17:19). The ultimate end of this journey is salvation.

Jerusalem is the city where the Saviour accomplishes his

mission of salvation. Luke, who has promised his readers an orderly narrative (1:3), prepares for this climax with a

presentation of Jesus' ministry in three stages: it begins in Galilee (4:14-9:50), moves south to Samaria (9:51-17:10),

and attains its goal in Judea and Jerusalem (17:11-21:38).

The events of Jesus' passion and resurrection occupy

chapters 23-24. Acts of the Apostles tells the story of the preaching of the gospel which retraces in reverse order this

same route: it begins in Jerusalem (Acts 1-7), moves out to

Judea and Samaria (Acts 8), reaches Galilee (Acts 9), and

will not stop until it reaches the 'ends of the earth' (Acts 1:8) which, in this geographical scheme, is Rome (Acts

23:11; 28:14). This Sunday's episode begins the third and final part of Jesus' 'exodus that he was going to accomplish

in Jerusalem' (9:20; Lent 2). (Taken from Liturgia)

Banyo Nundah Craft Group: Friday 18 October Care and Concern Craft Group will meet on Friday 18th

October in Nolan Hall at 10.00 am. We will be continuing with our Christmas Stitcheries, so please bring yours

along. A small plate of goodies to share with our cup of tea

will be welcome. Any queries please telephone Pauline on 32664661. Newcomers welcome.

Marian Valley Bus Trip The organising committee would like to

thank Nundah / Banyo Parishioners for

their participation of the annual pilgrimage to Marian Valley in honour of St. Teresa of

Calcutta. We had beautiful and fine weather. The Bus trip was enjoyable. God

Bless You All.

missionary “spring” in the church.

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary.

Stewardship “Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?” LUKE 17:18 Most of us live “easy” lives. We have food, shelter and clothing. We go on vacation every year and own a car or

two. Most of us take this all for granted. Did you ever

notice that people with the least amount of possessions are usually the most grateful? Shouldn’t this be the other way

around? Take time every day and thank God for all He has given you.
