He wanted to stay in power• Put his friends in high positions in the church

He appointed Pope through Divine Right (being

chosen by God to be King)

LAY INVESTITURE

POPE GREGORY VII POSITION

Church was getting more and more corrupt (being

dishonest and immoral)

People were slowly turning on the church

Pope Gregory VII wanted to change this view
