THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST JUNE 23, 2019

JOIN A NEW SUMMER STUDY!

• Have you ever been unable to explain the “why” of Catholic beliefs?

• Have you ever wondered why the Old Testament sounds so different from the New Testament?

In the Old Testament, God began building a plan and laying a foundation for the beautiful traditions of the Catholic Faith. That plan was fulfilled by Jesus in the New Testament.

Fulfilled: Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism is an apologetic approach to sharing the Catholic Faith using the Old Testament Tabernacle as a blueprint for God’s plan. While it is designed as a faith-sharing Scripture study, you will also gain an understanding of some of the most questioned Catholic teachings.Fulfilled will reignite your love of Scripture and help you share and defend the Catholic Faith with the Word of God.

Part One focuses on the elements found in the outer sanctuary of the Tabernacle and how they connect to the liturgical calendar, the priesthood, purgatory, Baptism, and more.

Join us this July for this new Ascension Press study presented on video by Sonja Corbitt, a Catholic author and speaker who has produced several multimedia Bible Studies, including Unleashed, Fearless, Ignite, and Fulfilled.

PARISH PROJECTSThis past week, the Facilities Team lost a dear and devoted member, Agnes Akahowashema.Agnes’ smile and her determination to ensure our church always looked its best, made her a joy to work with and a great addition to our team. She appeared quiet to most as she sometimes struggled with English, her second language. Most didn’t realize that she was a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with her husband and three children, as well as her parents, seven brothers and four sisters. In 2002, Agnes and her three children endured much hardship during a long civil war in the area. Separated from family, Agnes and her children traveled village to village, sleeping outside and surviving the best they could. In 2005, they began living in a refugee camp, regained their health and were selected for transfer to the U.S. in 2009 with their destination Columbus, OH.Before coming to St. Matthew Parish, Agnes learned English, worked as a custodian at AEP and ultimately became a United States Citizen in late 2015. She is survived by her five children: Ketsia 21, Sarah 15, Joseph 13, Brian 8 and Josephine 10 months. Our hearts and prayers go out to the children as they struggle with the loss of their mother. We are accepting monetary gifts on behalf of the children. If you would like to contribute, please make the check out to St. Matthew Church with the note “For Agnes’ Family” in the memo line. You can drop contributions in the offertory basket or mail/bring to the Parish Office. We will continue to support them in any way we can. Thank you for your generosity.Next week, we will provide more updates on our summer projects. Please feel free to contact the Parish Office or George Harvey at [email protected] for additional information.
