DUtiES AND rESPoNSABilitiES:Analysis and design studies useful for the drawing of the new municipal development plan of Genoa, concerning the lectures of the different types of buildings of the city and possible uses of brownfields in Valpolcevera. In the first phase of the work, we have collaborated with four trainees from the Politecnique of Milan, coordinated by Arch. Elena rosa and Arch. Stefano recalcati. We have studied the biggest infrastructure connecting the city, we have designed the areasof urban transformation in Val Polcevera, Genoa, and small redevelopment projects of public spaces.in agreement with richard Burdett, Professor at the london School of Economics and Political Science (lSE), we have selected the best solutions finally converged in the tables of the last urban plan of Genoa’s Municipality. the second phase was focused on the analysis of urban tissue, and we cataloged the building in different type.the work produced was inserted without changes within the chapter “Analysis of Constructed”, a part of the initial document of the Urban Plan of Genoa, published in the 2011 by Genoa’s Municipality. My work was cited in the bibliography.

Architectural Competition for the realization of the New City library - City of Brioscoin collaboration with: AMA, Matteo Ascani Architecture - february 2014

DESCriPtioN:the project sculpts the morphology of the terrain in order to optimize the energy performance of the building using the

latest technology. the dialogue with the environment is strengthened through the use of carefully selected materials. The volume is very low compared to the floor area,

it was decided in fact to reduce the visual impact of the building, trying to exploit the natural gradient of the land

for the creation of a semi-underground architecture.

in order to obtain the best exposure to sunlight has opted for l-shapedoriented so that one side of the building fits on the ground by connecting the cover with the gentle slope of the land, in order to create a natural courtyard between the building and the natural slope.

in organizing the plant to l was chosenfor an open space solution; in a baricentric position

you will have the main entrance and access to the courtyard behind. the main wing, overlooking

East-West, almost 120sq.m, will be used as a reading room and media room. the entrance area will be a freer area for recreation and reading with sofas and armchairs. the smaller wing facing, oriented

North / South, will be on two levels, the ground floor will house bathrooms, offices, stock and technical room while upstairs there will be the space for Children of 40 sqm. Were provided eight computer stations and 30 seats in the reading room but the environment lends itself to

flexible variations in the arrangement of the furniture.

“froM UrBANitY to HUMANitY”the project concerns the district of “Maddalena”, a part of Genoa’s historical city center, that is from many years in a state of decay. the aim of the project was the rivitalisation of the area, its inclusion in the tourist routes and its return to the citizen so that they can return to live that place every day.Retrofitting of buildings, renovation of lighting, flooring and road signs of public paths, opening of new stores, increase services for citizens, create a connection to the sea with the Porto Antico’s areas and upstream with the green around the city are some of the action with whom we expect to change the real and perceived face of “Maddalena”. this project adds a new element: the creation of a path of visual-perceptual rediscovery of the city. Genoa is beautiful and the purpose of this project is show it, in the hope that, rediscovering his value, even those who live there daily, could be stimulated to see it in a new, more aware, way.

DESCriPtioN: the East london olympics ground was once imagined to be site of Cedric Price’s Fun Palace; a building of complete flexibility, responding to all of its inhabitants’ wishes, a laboratory of fun. the course focused on a series of architectural visions of “total environment” of the recent past, increasingly disappearing in london; and how the dream of the original fun Palace was suspended by the olympics on this particular East london site. Based on a series of dichotomies that structured the analitical approach to the sites, each student investigated different themes in controlled architectural projects such as the Barbican, the robin Hood garden, the Brunswick Center and the Alexandra road Estate. Students worked with modelmaking, ending up with one model, based on a photograph , buit only to be photographed. it is in this way a completely controlled environment itself. finally students produced a pamphle sold in the BookShop of Architectural Association.

the thesis has been of considerable interest in the cultural landscape of Genoa, it analysed in a critical way the issues of contemporary urbanism.Highlights the contradictions inherent in the non-decisions of urban planners and politicians, with a careful look at the international scene.UbanCenter and Urbanlab, sectors of the Municipality of Genoa, organized a conference, on february 10th, 2012 in loggia Banchi, in order to discuss in public the reflections brought to light by the thesis. The conference was introduced by Marta Vincenzi, Mayor of Genoa in office at that time and Anna iole Courses, executive Urbanlab. At the conference the speakers were also the supervisors of the thesis, Prof. franca Balletti and Prof. Giovanni Galli, and the authors of the thesis, Barbara Bianco and Katia Carli.the thesis was also presented, on february 26th, 2012 at the teatro la Claque, at the PechaKucha Night Genoa 01.

Positivist positions of a dystopian vision

The thesis was drawn from reflections emerged during the internship held at the Municipality of Genoa, Sector Urbanlab. in the course of that experience have been studied many issues related to the Valpolcevera’s territory. The Genoa’s area studied turned out to be a field of experimentation ideal with which to confront in order to explore the themes of contemporary urban design. from National and European way of do Urban Plans has been extract a catalog of urbanistics analysis, objectives and strategies.it was possible to identify three different approaches to urban planning that turn around at three fulcrums ideally distinct: Nature, Man and the Aesthetics. Such approaches have been renamed Sustainability, functionality and Beauty, by establishing a parallel with the note Vitruvian triad:

firmitas, Utilitas, Venustas.

three terms for single denition of architecture, each one is essential. through the writing of eighty-analysis, three posters and a system of actions and strategies focused on Val Polcevera, have been applied in full, without mediation, the approaches outlined.from the cognitive framework showed the image of the Genoese valley which proved rich in facets and contradictions on which it has been possible to work thanks to the many areas of transformation available that make plausible a radical change of the city.the city can become a work of art, dotted with piece of architecture and spaces that become places of identity, allowing the Civitas to recognize in the Urbs, the other characterized by specific collective themes that allow a comparison with other cities. In this work of art the citizen will find its size, turning the city to his service so that it will be changefull and dynamic. A reality on a human even in his relationship with nature: a meeting place and green lung.Aggregating the individual elements identified by applying full all the possible strategies identified, has obtained an overabundance of overlapping signs, the lack of choices has created a dystopian image. The thesis concludes with a reflection on the future of planning, assuming the need to engage in strategic decisions within the overall framework of reference.

DESCriPtioN: the post-professional graduate design programme focuses on the problem of housing, favoring an approach based on the reuse and transformation of the existing; therefore it is testing a design methodology aimed at reducing the ecological footprint for thinking together to the basic needs of living: shelter, food, water and energy. the study of the approach and the bioclimatic analysis of the life cycle (lCA), the active and passive technologies for energy efficiency, renewable energy and their mode of integration in architecture and landscape and, still, tools for the analysis of thermo-fluid dynamics, of lighting and water management, of energy certification and environmental evaluation tools, constitute the body of expertise offered by the Master. All stages of the process (analysis of the place, to the study of the initial situation up to the definition of the different solutions of the project) are made using computer system and parametric model based on BiM (Building information Modeling) so that the students could experience the integrated process at high efficiency, fundamental condition for LEED’s assessment systems and certification. In particular way, will be addressed the issues of integration between the shape of the project, the characteristics of the construction materials, methods of construction, costs of conversion and construction, analysis of energy efficiency, relevant for evaluation of integrated sustainability with the economic possibility.

AiMS: the Master is aimed at training an expert in Environmental Design, with skills in:bioclimatic design (tools: Ecotec, Revit) - integrated design with assessment tools thermo - fluid dynamics (tools: Envi-Met, Design Builder) - design and verification of power-generating systems Energy (tool: Pv-Syst) - environmentally friendly materials - systems efficiency and reuse of water - lighting (tool: Relux) - energy and Environmental assessment and Certification (TERMUS, Itaca, Leed)
