GET Bus Route Change Benefits Clients
If you can help us in any manner please call Linda Hartman at 661-834-2272, send email to: [email protected] We will be announc-
ing our progress throughout this exciting campaign. Thank you for helping us continue to Give People Purpose!!!
Sunday, October 5th marked the return of the
GET Bus stop in front of BARC! The stop was re-
moved in 2012 when GET redesigned their bus
routes. The removal of the stop forced Clients to
walk at least 1/4 of a mile, sometimes in inclem-
ent weather, to catch the bus home.
Thanks to the tireless advocacy of BARC and the
willingness of the GET board to re-examine the
removal, the stop is now back. The new route 83
goes from BARC to Half-moon Drive. The bus
has a stop at the Valley Plaza allowing individu-
als to transfer to a bus that will take them closer
to their home.

Letter from the President
People know BARC has been in the recycling
business since the mid-seventies, but did you
know BARC collects more beverage contain-
ers, paper and cardboard than any other buy-
back company in Kern County? BARC Recy-
cling processed and shipped over 44 million
pounds of Recyclables in 2013!
BARC operates two buy-back centers in Bak-
ersfield located at our South Union facility
and at 2125 Brundage Lane. There are four
other buy-back centers throughout town that
also help support BARC: R & R Recycling at
Chester and Watts, O.G. Recycling at Harris
and Stine and Jaurez Recycling at Stockdale
and Stine or at Niles and Mt. Vernon. You can
contribute to our mission and get cash back
for your recyclables at the same time!
In addition, BARC recycles electronic waste.
You can drop off old televisions, computer
monitors, printers, fax machines, copiers and
other electronic products at our BARC South
Union Industrial Park to begin the process of
being recycled into new useful products. This
e-waste recycling service is free.
BARC even recycles spoiled, out-of-date bev-
erages such as soda, water, juice and beer.
Major beverage distributors in the San
Joaquin Valley and as far as Sacramento rely
on BARC to recycle their waste beverages in
an environmentally responsible manner. We
use three state-of-the art decasing machines,
one which was given to us by Anheuser-Busch
to separate beverages from containers.
BARC also recycles tires at our Tire-Shred facili-
ty located at our South Union Avenue facility.
At BARC Nothing Goes To Waste! Thank you
for supporting our programs and services.

National Disabilities Employment Awareness 4
October is National Disability
Employment Awareness
Month, and all members,
friends, employees and Clients
of BARC are encouraged to
participate. The purpose of Na-
tional Disability Employment
Awareness Month is to educate
about disability employment
issues and celebrate the many
and varied contributions of
America's workers with disabili-
ties.
Held annually, National Disa-
bility Employment Awareness
Month is led by the U.S. De-
partment of Labor's Office of
Disability Employment Policy,
but its true spirit lies in the
many observances held at the
grassroots level across the na-
tion every year. Employers of
all sizes and in all industries are
encouraged to participate in
NDEAM.
For specific ideas about how
BARC members, friends, em-
ployees and Clients can support
National Disability Employment
Awareness Month, visit the
ODEP website at www.dol.gov/
odep/. Suggestions range from
simple, such as putting up a
poster, to comprehensive. Re-
gardless, all play an important
part in fostering a more inclu-
sive workforce, one where
every person is recognized for
his or her abilities — every day
of every month. For more info
