01INTrODUcTION

1.1 OVErVIEW

1.2 LOcATION

ThisStudent’sGuideistheresultofdatacompilationcarriedoutbytheStudentServiceDepartment(SSD)basedonexperiencesfrompreviousyearsandfeedbackfromourformerstudentsandourcurrentnationalandinternationalstudents.

Thecontentofthisguidehasbeenupdated;however,EAEisnotresponsibleforfurtherchangesmadetothisdocument.

Wesincerelythankallthosewhocontributedwithhelpfulcomments;theyenabledustoimprovethequalityofthedataandtoprovidebetterservicetoourstudents.

EAEBusinessSchoolwasfoundedin1958inresponsetoincreasingdemandsplacedbothonindividualsandsocietyingeneralfromthefinancialandbusinesssectors.EAE’sgoalistotraincurrentandfutureleaders,businessmenandwomenandprofessionalsininternationalfields.EAEisarenownedinstitutionbothnationallyandinternationallybecauseofthequalityofitseducatorsandinstructors,itsprograms,whichareconstantlyupdatedtoreflectcurrentbusinessconditionsandtrends,andbecauseofitsinternationalcharacter,asitattractsstudentsfrommorethan40differentcountrieseveryyear.

EAEislocatedintheneighbourhoodknownasEixampleDretinthecityofBarcelona.ItisveryclosetoPlaçad’EspanyaandtoEstaciódeSants.Theschooliseasilyaccessiblebypublictransport(bus,undergroundandtrain).Thenumbers9,27,30,41,43,44,50,56,109,215busesallstopatthenearestbusstoptoEAE.TheclosestUndergroundLinestoEAEarenumber3,green(Tarragonastation),number1,red(Rocafortstation)andnumber4,blue(Entençastation).

ConvenientlylocatednearEstaciódeSants(themaintrainstationinthecity,operatedbyRENFE,(www.renfe.es),thetrainisalsoagreattransportationoptionforEAEstudents.Here,trainsconnectwiththemainmetropolitanareasofBarcelona,therestoftheCatalonianregionandSpain,aswellasseveralEuropeandestinations.

RESoURCES AnD DoCUMEnTATion CEnTRE

TheResourcesandDocumentationcentreislocatedonthesixthfloorofthebuilding.Itcontainsmorethan15,000volumes,mainlyinSpanishandEnglish,andabout90studyingandreadingstations,withInternetaccessviaourwirelesssystemforusebystudents,teachersandEAEstaff.

Additionally,thecentreprovidesaccesstobusinessandmarketingspecificelectronicdatabasesaswellassubscriptionsto250periodicalsandpublications(magazines,newspapers,managementbooks,etc.)availableforstudentuse.

Thestaffwillassiststudentsattheinformationdesksandarealsoavailabletorespondtoquestionsviaemailat:[email protected]

It is important to emphasize that students who feel the need to ask for something can contact the SSD anytime; they will always be attended to and assisted by a staff member.

PRoFESSionAl CAREER SERviCES Thisdepartmentisfocusedonthefreemanagementofjoboffersrelatedtoin-companytrainingandotherrecruitingconsultanciesforcurrentandformerEAEstudents.Itprovidesaconnectionbetweencompaniesandcurrentandformerstudentsbyensuringthatrecruitmentneedsarefulfilledbyinterestedstudents/formerstudentswhoapplythroughthejobsite.http://www.eae.es/es/carreras_profesionales_ofertas.html

CareersServicesisaserviceforstudents,companiesandcollaboratingagenciesfromEAE.Overtheyears,thescopeofthisservicehasbroadened,thankstothesupportofmanycorporations.Wecurrentlyworkwithmorethan900corporationsandfirmsthatplacetheirtrustinourinstitution.

TheprogramisofferedtostudentswhoareregisteredinanEAEprogram.Wedonotguaranteeinternshipsforeverysingleapplicant,andthispracticalworkexperiencemayormaynothaveadirectrelationshiptothestudent’sspecificprogram.Thestudentwillbekeptinformedofthestepsandprocessestofollow.

2.1. STUDENTS WITH A QUALIFIcATION FrOm AN EU UNIVErSITY

• OriginalqualificationcertificateandasworntranslationintoSpanish(ifthecertificateisinalanguageotherthanSpanish).

• OriginalcollegetranscriptandasworntranslationintoSpanish(ifthecertificateisinalanguageotherthanSpanish).

Legalizedauthenticationofadocumentbythecompetentauthoritiesofthecountryoforiginofthedocumentisrequiredfortherecognitionofpartialstudiesasintheapprovalofthedegree.

Duetothefactthatmostofourprogramsaredual-degrees(anEAEdegreeandanotheronefromUPC),itisessentialthatalltheuniversityorinstitutiondiplomasobtainedfromoutsideSpainmust be authenticated before being presented to EAE.

1.RecognitionbytheauthoritiesoftheMinistryofEducationfromthecountryoforigin(Ministrystamp),ofthesignaturesthatareintheoriginaldocument,whensuchadocumentisasupportingstudiesdocument(universityqualificationsandeducationalcertificates).

Recognitionbytheauthoritiesofthepertinentdepartmentfromthecountryoforiginofthesignatureswhichappearedintheoriginaldocument,whensuchadocumentisasupportingdocumentforanyotherreason(e.g.birthcertificatesandnationality).

2.Legalizationoftheaforementionedissuedrecognition,inthecountrywherethosedocumentswereissuedbytheMinistryofForeignAffairsofthecountryoforigin(Ministrystamp).

3.RecognitionofthepreviouslegalizationsignaturebytheSpanishdiplomaticrepresentationinthecountryoforigin(EmbassiesandConsulatesoftheMinistryofForeignAffairs).

AlldocumentsissuedattheConsulateoftheforeigncountryinSpainmustbeauthenticatedbytheSpanishMinistryofForeignAffairs.

•TheConvenioAndrésBellosignatorycountries:

ThecountrieswhichsignedtheConventionare:Bolivia,Colombia,Cuba,Chile,Ecuador,Spain,Panama,Peru,andVenezuela.

Alldocumentsmustbeauthenticatedviadiplomaticoffice(theprocesseliminatesthelastordinarylegalizationprocedure).Pleasenote,whenthecountryisalsoasignatoryofTheHagueConvention,theeasierprocedureestablishedbythiscouldbeused.Theymustbesubmittedtoeachoftheseplacesandinthisorder:

Thedocumentsmustbelegaliseddiplomatically(theprocesseliminatesthelaststepinordinarylegalisation).(WhenthecountryisalsopartofTheHagueConvention,themethodestablishedbyTheHaguecanbeusedasitiseasier).Youmustpresentyourselftothefollowingplacesinthisorder:

1.TheMinistryofEducationofthecountryoforiginforqualificationsandeducationalstudies.

2.ThecorrespondingMinistryforbirthandnationalitycertificates,attheMinistryofForeignAffairsofthecountryinwhichthosedocumentswereissued.

3.ThediplomaticorconsularrepresentationofSpaininthesaidcountry.

SADmanagesallstudentdocumentsprovidedtoEAEinordertofacilitatethecompletionofeachstudent’srecords.

Inordertocompletetheirrecordandoptforthedual-degree(iftherequirementslaiddownbyUPCaremet)itisESSENTIALthat:

InthecaseofcompleteduniversitystudiesinEUcountriesorcountriesfromtheEuropeanEconomicArea,degreeauthenticationwillnotbeneeded.However,aSpanishtranslationofsuchadegreeorinternationaldegreesinalanguagedifferentfromSpanish,asprescribedinarticle36.1oftheAct30/1992of26ofNovember,onRulesgoverninggeneralgovernmentinstitutionsandCommonAdministrativeProcedure,willbenecessary.

TheHagueConventionapostilleisastamp-likefootnoteattheendorsideofadocument(issuedhere)sothatitcanbevalidinthosecountrieswhichsignedtheConvention(andviceversa).Theapostilleisnecessary,forexample,forofficialproceduresrelatedtonationalityanduniversityqualifications,amongothers.

Oncethestudenthascompletedallthecreditspertainingtotheprogram,thedual-degreeprocesswillbeautomaticallyinitiated,freeofchargeforthestudent,providedthatthestudentmeetstherequirementsestablishedbyUPCandEAE.Themanagementprocedureforsuchqualificationslastsaboutayearfromtheclosingoftheacademicrecords.

Incaseoftheneedinadvanceofasupportingdocument,thestudentmustrequestanofficialtranscriptthroughcertificados@eae.es .

Thosestudentswhoareinterestedinsupportingtheirqualifications(oranyotherdocumentthatEAEprovides)willbeabletodosoatthenotaryofficelistedbelow(thecostsaredebitedbytheinterestedpersonandcouldbearound40€perdocument).

EverynationalandinternationalstudentmustcomplywithEAErules.Onthefirstday,theprogramdirectorwillexplaintheacademicandsocialEAErules.Studentsmustrespecttherulesinorderfortheprogramtorunsmoothly.

ThecoursestaughtatEAEarein-classroom,soallstudentsmustsigntheattendancelistintheclass.Thelistwillberemovedduringtheclass;thereforestudentsarenotexpectedtocomplainaboutsignatureissuesonceitisremoved.Thecourselectureroranypersondelegatedbytheacademicauthoritycouldcalltherollduringaclass,checkingthesignaturesagainstthoseinclass.

Thesignatureofastudentwhohassignedandisnotinclassatthetimeofrollcallwillbeconsideredaminoroffence.Thestudent’srecidivismwillbepenalizedasaseriousoffence,whichmeansthatthestudentwillnotbeassessedinthatsubject.

Inthecaseofforgingsignatures,theresponsibilitywillfallonthestudentwhosesignaturehasbeenforged.

Outofconsiderationforteachersandtherestofthestudents,pleasebeontimeandrespectthetimetablesforeachsubject(exams,jobsandcases).

Students,nationalorinternational,mustfindoutaboutthedeadlinesforhandinginprojects,exams,expositions(amongothers)correspondingtotheprogramorsubjectsinwhichtheyareregistered.

Onthefirstday,theSADwillprovidestudentswiththeirpasswordstousetheCampusEAEonlineplatform.Onadailybasis,studentsmustcheckonthisonlineplatformasallkindsofinformationrelatedtotheirprogramortheInstitutionwillbeupdatedandpublishedonit.TheEAEonlinecampuswillbethemeansofcommunicationforthedifferentEAEactivities.

AsaSpanishcityandcapitaloftheCatalonianregion,BarcelonaislocatedontheMediterraneancoast.ItistheSeatofParliamentfortheCatalonianGovernment(Generalitat).ItissaidtohavebeenfoundedbytheCarthaginianAmílcarBarca,whogaveithisname:BarcinoAugustusmadeitaRomancolony,anditwasalanguidplaceuntiltheVisigothsmadeittheirowncapitalcitybetween415and431.AttheendoftheXVIIIcentury,thecityexperiencedaprogressivepopulationincreaseparalleltoitsindustrialandculturalbooms,thusachievingthehighgrowthanddevelopmentlevelsthatdefinethecitytoday.From17thOctober1986,whenitwasstatedashometotheXXVOlympicGamesuntilitscelebration(from25thJulyto9thAugustin1992),thecitywasredevelopedandimprovedinaspecialway:ringroadswerecreated,andprojectswereundertakenaroundtheOlympicring,theOlympicVillageandthemarina.

ThemostimportantcitiesinCataloniaareGirona(90km,NorthofBarcelona),Tarragona(100kmtotheSouth)andLleida(150kmtotheWestofthecapitalcity).Thesethreecitiesarejoinedbyanexcellentnetworkofmotorways,roadsandrailwayswithBarcelona.
