Programming the Technology

Calling upon their experience and talent in preflight, workflow and production, theconsortium of industry experts assembled by Print by Premier + More developed acorporate store technology as the basis for the solution. The system was designed tomake it easy for the client/consumer to use and also simple for the printer to producethe work. The system would use true type fonts, real-time PDF’s and a true workflowinterface to monitor each step of the process while providing instantaneous informationto the consumer/approver. As the system developed, it became an extension of thecorporate guidelines, with an automatic ability to kern and adjust the leading ofcharacters within the templates and products as required. This ability eliminated theneed for custom, time-consuming, offline typesetting—with their associated designtweaking and approvals—improving the service level expectations for the clients.

Implementing the Solution

After meeting with the lead print consultant of Barclays, a comprehensive plan wasdeveloped to launch the various brands in stages. The process would start withBarclays Capital, followed by Barclays Wealth, and then all of the presentation andmarketing materials. The system would have the look and feel of Barclays’ ownIntranet, providing an appeal similar to what was being used internally by variousgroups. Training manuals were made available as very simple screen captures, including step-by-step information explaining how to design, proof, approve and order(DPAO™) within the system. Online demonstrations via GoToMeeting® weredemonstrated to the groups, in addition to in-house training.
