What is the Barco CMS plugin?

gtap.genetec.com | Barco CMS Plugin Guide 3.1 2EN.550.016-V.3.1(2) | Last updated: May 12, 2014

What is the Barco CMS plugin?

The Barco CMS plugin is used to integrate the Barco Control Room Management Suite (CMS) software system in Security Center. The plugin allows you to do the following:

• Connect to a Barco CMS server to control and modify a Barco display (video wall) using the Barco CMS task in Security Desk. Any changes that are made are automatically shown to other users monitoring that display.

• Drag and drop live video sources and camera sequences from Security Center to a perspective or a display.

• Add and remove perspectives from a display.• Create new perspectives and modify existing ones.• Modify the grid layout of sources in a perspective and in a display.• Lock perspectives so they cannot be modified.• Block and unblock cameras.• Configure users to manage specific displays.• Configure user privileges so that certain users can only perform specific actions such as

locking a perspective.• Support failover.NOTE In order to transmit video streams to a Barco display, a multicast network is required. The multicast stream is sent to the Barco CMS server directly from the encoder, from the Archiver, or the Redirector depending on the configuration.

Known issues

The Barco CMS plugin integration includes the following known issues.

Issue Description

156256 Barco CMS: Perspectives unexpectedly enter a state where they cannot be locked or deleted, nor can their grid settings be modified.

156946 Barco CMS: When video source windows overlap each other in a perspective, they might not display in the correct order on the wall.

Limitations

gtap.genetec.com | Barco CMS Plugin Guide 3.1 6EN.550.016-V.3.1(2) | Last updated: May 12, 2014

Limitations

The Barco CMS plugin integration includes the following limitations.

Issue Description

114303 Barco CMS: Video feeds and camera sequences may take a long time to load in the CMS system. Workaround: In Config Tool on the Video tab of the camera, try increasing the Key frame interval. Also, when creating a camera sequence in Config Tool, set the Dwell time to five seconds so the feed has enough time to load before the next feed starts.

114304 Barco CMS: Only one instance of the Barco CMS plugin is supported for a Security Center system, and the plugin can only connect to one CMS server.

149793 Barco CMS: You cannot resize a source that represents a sequence in the Barco Sidebar.Workaround: Use the Barco CMS task in Security Desk to resize the source.

158735 Barco CMS: After clearing the Draw Grid lines option for a perspective, the option remains enabled the next time you select the perspective.Workaround: Clear the option again or set the number of rows and columns to zero.

159103 Barco CMS: You cannot delete a perspective from the Barco CMS task while it’s being viewed or edited by a Sidebar user.Workaround: Close the perspective in the Sidebar application.

159112 Barco CMS: When a perspective has already been added to a display, and is added for the second time, a copy is created of that perspective.

160871 Barco CMS: Custom tile presets that are defined in the Barco Sidebar are not supported and are ignored by the plugin.Workaround: Use the grid settings available in the Barco CMS task to modify the layout of perspectives.

168289 Barco CMS: The backup and restore functionality of the Barco CMS is not supported. If you do perform a backup or restore, any perspectives that were configured beforehand will no longer work correctly.

Preinstallation checklist

Before you install the Barco CMS plugin, please read and do the following:

• Read the "Release notes" on page 4, for any known issues, limitations, and other important information about this release.

• Install Security Center 5.2 SR4 on the server. For more information about installing Security Center, see the Security Center Installation and Upgrade Guide.

• Check that your Security Center license has a valid certificate for the Barco CMS plugin. The licence number is included in the product-release email from the Genetec product manager. This email also includes links to the plugin download package and electronic license.

• Make sure your Barco CMS Server is running.• If you are upgrading from Barco CMS plugin 3.0, see "Upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1" on

page 12.• Since video is streamed in high resolution on a Barco display, enable and configure the High

resolution stream in Config Tool. This allows you to configure specific settings for stream-ing on the Barco display and reduce bandwidth usage on the network. For more informa-tion about configuring a high resolution stream, see “Configuring video streams” in the Security Center Administrator Guide.

• In Config Tool on the Video tab under Network settings, make sure the Connection type is set to Multicast for all cameras that you want to display on a wall. If this option is not available, leave it set to Best available.

IMPORTANT During the installation the Genetec Server service will stop and restart automatically on the server where you are installing the plugin. Postpone the installation of the plugin if it is not a good time for your server to be stopped.

Upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1

gtap.genetec.com | Barco CMS Plugin Guide 3.1 12EN.550.016-V.3.1(2) | Last updated: May 12, 2014

Upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1

This section explains how to upgrade the Barco CMS 3.0 plugin to the Barco CMS 3.1 plugin.IMPORTANT An optimization made for video sequences in the Barco CMS 3.1 plugin requires that the 3.0 plugin be running and connected to the Barco CMS server prior to the 3.1 upgrade. To avoid issues, do not attempt to change the CMS server's IP address or install a brand new CMS server at the same time as you plan to upgrade the plugin. The Barco CMS server should be the same (same version, same IP address, same database) as before the upgrade.

Before you begin: If you were not using video sequences in the Barco CMS 3.0 plugin you can skip Step 1.

To upgrade from 3.0 to 3.11 Make sure the Barco CMS 3.0 plugin is running and connected to the Barco CMS server.2 Uninstall the Barco CMS Plugin 3.0.3 Download the Barco CMS 3.1 installation package from the GTAP Product Downloads

page, at https://gtap.genetec.com/SystemManagement/DownloadSection.aspx.4 Double-click the setup.exe file, and follow the installation instructions.5 Enter the electronic license.

For information about acquiring the electronic license, see "Preinstallation checklist" on page 11.

NOTE When upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1, the compression mappings file is not overwritten in order to preserve any specific mappings required. If you want to use the compression mappings file defined for 3.1 you will need to import it manually on the Properties tab of the plugin. The 3.1 Defaultcompressionmappings.xml is provided in the 3.1 plugin installation package. For more information, see "Configure the Barco CMS plugin role" on page 17.

Configure the Barco CMS plugin role

This section describes how to configure the Barco CMS plugin role, so you can view Security Center video in a Barco CMS display and be able to make changes to that display in Security Desk. To connect the plugin to the CMS server, you need to enter the CMS Server URL address of the CMS server in the plugin Properties tab. You can also set the user level for camera blocking, and export and import the CompressionMappings.xml. file for editing.

NOTE Only specific settings are described in this manual. For more information about generic Config Tool settings, such as the Identity and Resources tab settings, see the Security Center Administrator Guide. You can access this guide by pressing F1 in Config Tool.

1 In the Config Tool Home page, click Plugins.2 In the Plugins task, select the Barco CMS plugin from the entity browser, and then click the

Properties tab.

3 In the CMS Server URL field, type the web address of the CMS server you want to connect to. For example, http://<server name>/cms/PerspectiveMgtAPIImpl.

4 Beside the Camera blocking user field, click to select a user which sets the security user level required to view blocked camera streams on the Barco wall. The highest security user level is 1, and the lowest security user level is 254. The lower the value, the higher the security clearance. Therefore, if the Camera blocking user has a higher user level value than the value set for a blocked camera in Security Desk, they will not be able to view the blocked camera stream on the Barco wall. For example, if the Camera blocking user has a user level of 3 and another user blocks a camera in Security Desk with a user level of 2, the stream can no longer be viewed on the wall because a user level of 3 is considered to be lower (has less clearance) than a user level of 2. Your system administrator needs to set security levels for users in Config Tool. For more information, see “Security” in the Security Center Administrator Guide. For more informa-tion about camera blocking, see “Blocking/unblocking cameras” in the Security Desk User Guide.

5 (Optional) Beside Compression mappings file use the Export compression mappings ( ) button to save the CompressionMappings.xml file locally for editing. For more information, see "Editing the CompressionMappings.xml file" on page 20.

6 (Optional) Click the Import compressions mappings button ( ) to navigate to an .xml file and click Open. A dialog box will appear indicating if the import was successful and the new CompressionMappings.xml is applied.

7 Click Apply. The Barco CMS plugin should no longer be yellow.

Editing the CompressionMappings.xml file

In order to be able to view video from a camera on a Barco display, specific video compression mappings are required for the unit. Compression mappings for many supported cameras are included in the CompressionMappings.xml file by default, however you can add mappings for other units you are using.1 From the Home page in Config Tool, click the Plugins task.2 In the Plugins task, select the Barco CMS plugin from the entity browser, and then click the

Properties tab.3 Beside Compression mappings file, click the Export compression mappings ( ) button

and save the CompressionMappings.xml to a folder. 4 Navigate to where you saved the CompressionMappings.xml and open it.

You’ll notice text similar to the following for the units you are currently using:<CompressionMapping> <BarcoTemplate>bosch-h264-rtp-mgs</BarcoTemplate> <Manufacturer>Bosch</Manufacturer> <Model>AutoDome 700 IP IVA</Model> <StreamType>H264</StreamType> </CompressionMapping>

5 Use the block of code above as a guide for what to use for your camera. You must provide the following values for the unit you want to add: BarcoTemplate. If you are not sure what to use for the Barco compression template, con-

tact your Barco representative. Manufacturer. Manufacturer of the unit. Model. If you have multiple cameras from the same manufacturer that all map to the

same BarcoTemplate, you can type <Model>All</Model>. If this is not the case, you need to provide the model of the unit. The model name can be found in the Config Tool entity tree.

NOTE Model information is not used for federated cameras because that information is not transmitted across the federation. If you have many mappings for the same Manufacturer and StreamType, federated cameras will use the first one found. The compression mapping logic works from the most specific to the most general. If a specific model is available, that will be used first. If it does not match, it will use a loose match, then the <Model>All</Model> entry and so forth.

Video compression (or stream) type. Should be Mpeg4 or H264.TIP In the rare case that all the manufacturers and camera models map to the same Barco template you can use the following values:

<Manufacturer>All</Manufacturer><Model>All</Model>
