PRAYER TO THE VIRGIN MARY(NEVER KNOWN TO FAIL)

O most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruit of the vine, splendorous of heaven.Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my necessity. O Star of the Sea help me and show me herein you are mother.O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of heaven and earth I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. O show me here you are my mother. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (say three times). Holy Mary I place this cause in your hands (say three times).Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. This prayer must be said for three days and after that the request will be granted and the prayer must be published.

It has been trying so hard to rain today. I did come through some heavier showers as I drove here today, however the whole change has been rather disappointing for our region so far. So I hope I am wrong and rain pelts down on everyone in the entire area!!

So very pleased to get the advice from the Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Member for Cairns, Desley Boyle in regard to the successful funding submissions for the construction of a new multi-shared catering and amenities facility located at the combined sports complex in Tambo as well as the upgrade and extension of existing facilities with a wide span open shade structure, eating area and multiuse sports court at the E E Parr Park in Tambo. These improvements will provide greater livability in our region and were prioritized by council some months ago.

The recently legislated State Animal Management (cats and dogs) Act 2009 will be rolled out progressively by Council from July 1st 2009 until July 1st 2011 when the entire state will have to comply.

Compulsory registration of cats and dogs and • the implantation of microchips for new cats and dogsStatewide compulsory tattooing for cats and • dogs de-sexed on or after July 1st 2009Statewide conditions for keeping dangerous, • menacing or restricted dogs (otherwise known as regulated dogs).Compulsory registration and micro-chipping of • cats has been introduced to reduce the numbers of feral and stray cats adversely impacting upon the environment and native fauna, and to make it easier for lost cats to be identified and reunited with their owners. There is an expectation that it will reduce the burden on council pounds and the need for animal euthanasia.Menacing dogs have been included in the new • legislation to facilitate better risk management, as dogs involved in serious attacks often have a history of menacing behavior. Dogs which have displayed a propensity for menacing behavior will be required to be kept under certain conditions, with the aim of preventing a more serious attack.Under the AMC&DA, the Blackall Tambo • Regional Council is required to implement the regulated dog provisions from July 1st 2009. Council must implement the remaining provisions of the legislation i.e. the registration of cats and dogs and the micro-chipping of new cats and dogs December 10th 2010. Council will have to purchase the appropriate readers in the near future to implement these new state laws.

Work continues on the extension of footpaths in Blackall and Tambo as well as the Alfred Street upgrade in Tambo. The construction of the Cultural Centre in Tambo is well under way. The repair grading of most council rural roads is well underway, if not finished. With the end of the financial year fast approaching it is time to consider the annual budget allocations and all that this implies for council and the community. This new financial year will have the added advantage of the direction of the new regional corporate plan to assist us in this most important part of council duties.

RLIP provide funding for Blackall Tambo Regional Council projects

The Blackall Tambo Regional Council recently received almost $700,000 in funding from the Rural Living Infrastructure Program (RLIP).

RLIP provide financial assistance to councils to improve the quality of life for people living in rural Queensland.

In their application, the council prioritised three potential projects that would be beneficial to Blackall and Tambo. This week mayor Jan Ross was informed that two of the three proposals had been successful in receiving funding.

The first of the grants, totalling $449,000, will be put towards the upgrade of the catering and bar facility at the rodeo/campdraft grounds in Tambo. The second, of $239,000, will help with the upgrading of E.E. Parr Park in Tambo. The council hopes to develop a stove and rest area for the travelling public, along with a multi-use sports and activity area.

Mayor Jan Ross said she was pleased to have been informed of the successful funding applications and looked forward to getting the projects underway.

Peter Chilcott from Supergene Livestock Evaluation Systems has developed a new method of identifying animals that are genetically superior and more fertile than the rest of the herd for consistency in cow breeding.

For the last few months, Peter has been touring Central Western Queensland offering seminars and field days on cow pregnancy and fertility.

According to users of Peter Chilcott’s evaluation system, his most recent results are outstanding and revolutionary.

Barry Mayne, along with Peter, at Tarabah yards, Tambo has conducted a scientific trial with his Red Poll first service heifers. The Red Poll absorbed the original Santa Getrudis on the property. Of the 476 14-month old heifers that were brought in, 360 or 76% were in calf at the first cycle, 9% pregnant in the second and third cycle, and a further 15% from the fourth and fifth cycle were culls.

Management and staff at Blackall 5 Star got loud last Thursday, May 14 to raise money for charity.

Loud Shirt Day raises much needed funds for deaf and hearing impaired children in Queensland.

Blackall 5 Star held a morning tea in conjunction with a raffle of a frangipani clock, donated by Ian Kinsey.

The raffle was won by Mr Neil Miller.

A total of $277.70 was raised for Queensland’s ‘deaf kids talking’ charities.

A fun day was had by all, with staff voting their own staff member Jenny Groves as having the loudest shirt.

Blackall 5 Star’s next project will be ‘Daffodil Day’ in August where fresh daffodils and Daffodil Day merchandise will be on sale in aid of cancer research.

On May 11 a women’s health seminar funded by Blackall – Tambo Regional Community Services and Department of Communities was held at the Blackall Cultural Centre.

Women travelled from Tambo, Longreach and locally to listen to Kim Balson, naturopath and author of the bestselling book ‘Woman to Woman – managing your hormones safely and naturally’.

With over 21 years in health care, Kim is considered one of Brisbane’s best natural therapists and natural hormone therapy specialists. She has lectured for 12 years for corporate organisations, private colleges and health retreats and written many nutritional programmes and courses for colleges.

Kim’s understanding of issues such as depression, fatigue, weight and hormonal imbalance was evident during the seminar and she followed up with individual appointments on Monday afternoon and Tuesday.

Diet, cholesterol, natural hormones, particularly progesterone, digestion and acne were also discussed during the seminar.

Women’s health issues are ongoing and although women appreciate that Blackall has a lady doctor and women’s health nurse visit every 6 weeks or so, the community services were approached to bring Kim to Blackall to share her knowledge.

In the past, Kim has travelled to Barcaldine and Longreach providing health seminars and clinic sessions and plans to continue doing this in the Central West and Blackall.

John has been busy in his first couple of weeks on the job, finding his feet and helping to prepare a submission to the Commonwealth for funding to upgrade the Blackall saleyards.

He moved out here in his motorhome and looks forward to exploring the region.

John has found the Tambo residents to be very welcoming and has enjoyed a number of social functions, including lawn bowls.

Birth/ArrivalLetter to the Editor

I have just visited Blackall this week as a visiting Naturopath from Brisbane upon invitation from the Blackall-Tambo Regional Council.

I was wanting to thank the community and in particular, Lisa Kings, from Blackall Council, for coordinating and organizing my trip to help with women’s health issues in the community. The consultations were part subsidized by council funds as were all of my travelling expenses.

What a community you have up there and what dynamic and active/caring women you have throughout.

Consequently, I am aiming to approach other regional councils within Queensland for the same opportunity as I believe my seminar and clinic sessions were helpful and constructive, according to feedback. I saw over 20 women in 1 ½ days plus gave a seminar at your civic hall. I have written a book on women’s hormonal health issues and plenty of those were also sold.
