First of all I am really please to have signed Alfie Pavey, he’s one we wanted for a long time.

It didn’t look like we were going to get him but I am delighted to have got the deal done. I am hoping that he will offer us something different, I just want us to score a goal where we cross the ball and there’s a bullet header! He works hard and has the right work ethic, he will be a presence for us.

I know the striker signing has been well spoken about, but we have finally got our number 9. I hope he can hit the ground running and the fans get right behind him. I have good attacking options already at the club and Alley really adds to that, I look forward to seeing what we can achieve.

Tonight, we welcome an Aldershot side who got a very good result on Saturday, Stockport is not an easy place to and pick up three points, there is no doubt tonight will be yet another difficult game. Saturday was a tough game, they sat behind the ball and countered, we managed to find a way to win the game and that is what is good about how we are playing at the moment. Aldershot will be a very different test, they handle the ball well, they are in good form and they will come here with confidence, I anticipate an enjoyable but tough game.

Obviously it is nice to be at the right end of the table and we have had a really positive start to the season, we are pleased with how we are getting on, but we always demand more and I want the players to want more. We have a good opportunity to rise a couple of places with a victory tonight, obviously it’s a long season but tonight is a good chance to move up to the top 5, but we must play well.

It was really important to get through Saturday without any further knocks, so that is a massive plus for us. One or two are getting closer, Sweens and Mauro trained yesterday so we are getting bodies back. Soon enough there will be plenty of competition for places and that will be really good for us.

I just want to give a mention to Harry Taylor on signing his new contract, he is a great lad and has made an incredible start to the season. He warrants his new deal and I am pleased Harry wants to commit his future for the club, he always works hard for the badge so congratulations to him.

It’s our last home match for a while, its really important we send you supporters home happy. I really enjoyed Saturday, the atmosphere was positive and it was nice to see some of you in the bar after the game too. Hopefully we can send you home with three more points and a positive performance again tonight.

Please continue your superb support for

myself and the team.

Enjoy the match and#LetsBeeTogether

It was a good positive performance on Saturday and I thought we deserved all three points.

I think it was a tricky game with the way Maidenhead played, in games like that there was no real pattern of the opponents play, it was very unpredictable. It can be difficult, but we dealt with it well and I think the longer the game went on they tired after all the possession we had. In the end one goal was enough and it is always pleasing to get a clean sheet.

I thought Loic had an excellent performance, he was really good, I couldn’t ask for anymore from him really. I felt comfortable playing alongside him, he did his job really well which was brilliant for him and the team. In the midfield we had Wes and he’s added real quality to the team. It is always nice to welcome someone into the team who knows the squad and already integrated in with the lads.

We are feeling confident going into this week with two massive games, starting tonight before the trip to Halifax on

Saturday. It is a busy 28 days coming up and there are plenty of points to play for, if we can get some more points on the board, we will be looking good going into the winter period.

Please keep getting behind us and we will do our best to get some more wins on

the board.

Thanks for your support, as always!

COME ON YOU BEES!

Formation and the Isthmian League YearsOn March 25th 1992, Aldershot FC became the first Football League team to fold during the season since Accrington Stanley in 1962.

From the ashes came phoenix club Aldershot Town, who were formed on April 22nd 1992 and managed by ex-Aldershot FC centre back Steve Wignall.

The “new” Shots began life in Isthmian League Division 3 and opened the 1992-93 season in a carnival atmosphere at the Recreation Ground against Clapton. Braces from Mark Butler and Steve Stairs secured a 4-2 win in front of 1493 fans, which was more than watched their predecessors’ last home game at the same ground.

Aldershot Town won their first 10 games and didn’t suffer their first (and only) defeat of the season until losing a league game at Clapton on January 2nd (at Clapton) in what was their 24th outing in all competitions. By then, they had broken attendance records at

most grounds at which they had played, buoyed by a superb away following of around 1000. The campaign finished with the Shots as champions by a commanding 18-point margin, whilst strikers Mark Butler and Steve Stairs scored a combined total of 62 goals in all competitions.

A second successive promotion (via a third-place finish) followed in 1993-94 together with a run to the FA Vase quarter-finals.

From the start of their inaugural season, Aldershot Town went 20 months (35 games) before suffering their first-ever home league defeat – to Banstead Athletic in April 1994.

Steve Wignall departed in January 1994 to take charge of Division 3 side Colchester United and was replaced by ex-Nottingham Forest winger Steve Wigley. Despite a strong finish to the 1994-95 season, the Shots missed out on a third successive promotion on goal difference. Following fifth- and seventh-place finishes over the next two seasons, Wigley left to take up a post in (former club) Forest’s youth set up in the summer of 1997.

Following a spell under the caretaker management trio of Andy Meyer, Mark Butler and Joe Roach, Enfield boss George Borg was appointed in

September 1997 and his first season yielded increased crowds and the Isthmian League Division 1 title. In 1998-99, striker Gary Abbott scored 48 goals in all competitions as the Shots won both the Isthmian League Cup and the Hampshire Senior Cup. In 1999-2000, they retained the latter trophy, won the Isthmian League Charity Shield and ended the campaign as runners-up (to Dagenham and Redbridge) in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

A fourth-place finish was claimed in 2000-01, whilst November 2001 saw a club record crowd of 7500 fill the Rec for the 6-2 defeat by Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup first round. Following a run of poor results and pressure from fans, Borg resigned in mid-January 2002.

Borg’s assistant Stuart Cash took temporary charge before Terry Brown left his post at Hayes in late March to come to North East Hampshire, thus beginning a five-year love affair with the Shots fans. Following a third-place finish and a third Hampshire Senior Cup win in 2001-02, the squad was overhauled and, having attained top spot in mid-November 2002 (ironically by way of victory over Brown’s former club Hayes), the Shots remained in top spot to claim the title and, with it, promotion to the Football Conference; they also retained the Hampshire Senior Cup with a victory over Bashley.

THE ALAN DEVONSHIRE YEARSFollowing a home victory over Accrington Stanley, Aldershot Town remained in the play-off positions for the entire 2003-04 season as well as winning the Isthmian League Charity Shield (for a second time) and reaching the FA Trophy semi-finals, where they lost to eventual winners Hednesford Town. Further disappointment followed, when the Shots were beaten

on penalties by Shrewsbury Town (after a 1-1 draw) in the play-off final at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium.

That summer, one era ended as another began: record appearance-maker Jason Chewins left the club having worn the red and blue of Aldershot on 489 occasions. Meanwhile, the club went full-time.

More play-off heartache was experienced in 2004-05, this time in the shape of a shoot-out defeat at Carlisle United in the semi-finals. The next two seasons were disappointing for the Shots (13th and ninth places respectively being secured), whilst the only silverware came by way of a fifth County Cup in 2006-07.

In March 2007, Terry Brown resigned to take care of his wife, who had been ill for some time. Assistant Manager Martin Kuhl took caretaker charge for the remainder of the season.

PROMOTION TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUEGary Waddock was appointed as Aldershot Town manager in May 2007, whilst Martin Kuhl stayed on as his assistant. The Shots played an attacking brand of football, especially at home, where they lost just three times and, having won the Conference Premier title by drawing 1-1 on an emotional night in Exeter, they finished the 2007-08 season with an 18-match unbeaten run and two divisional records: 31 wins and 101 points. A “double” was achieved as a 3-3 extra time draw against Rushden and Diamonds at the Recreation Ground was followed by a win in the shoot-out to claim the Setanta Shield.

Sixteen years after the quest had begun, the town of Aldershot had a Football League side to cheer again.

A club record £130,000 was received from Crewe Alexandra for winger Joel Grant in the summer of 2008.

THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE YEARSScott Donnelly (the Shots’ scorer “that night” at Exeter) scored the only goal of the club’s first-ever Football League game, a 1-0 win at Accrington, and the club finished a respectable thirteenth in League 2 in 2008-09.

In mid-October 2009, Waddock and Kuhl left the (now

named) EBB Stadium to join Wycombe Wanderers. Jason Dodd and Paul Williams took caretaker charge before ex-Reading assistant manager Kevin Dillon was appointed as boss. An unexpected sixth-place finish was attained in 2009-10, but a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Rotherham United haled the Shots at the semi-final stage.

With the 2010-11 season having yielded several poor performances, including a toothless 2-0 loss at Conference South outfit Dover Athletic in the FA Cup second round, Kevin (and assistant Gary Owers) were dismissed in early January having attained just a dozen wins from 39 games in all competitions. When Kevin departed the EBB Stadium, Aldershot were in 20th place in League 2 and just six points above the drop zone.

The next occupant of the Shots hot seat was Dean Holdsworth, who resigned from his post at Newport County to come to Aldershot, eventually guiding the club to a mid-table finish that season.

Aldershot Town gained nationwide attention in 2011-12, when FA Premier League giants Manchester United visited the EBB Stadium for a League Cup fourth round tie; 7044 fans saw the Red Devils win 3-0 in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The Shots had a good end-of-season run-in and eventually finished just six points outside the play-offs in 11th. Unfortunately, despite paying a club record fee to Stevenage for striker Craig Reid, neither the home form nor the style of play from the previous season was evident very much in 2012-13 and Holdsworth was sacked in mid-February with the team in 20th spot.

Former Rotherham United boss Andy Scott was brought in, but couldn’t stem the tide and relegation back to the Conference Premier (the club’s first such event) was confirmed at end of the season as the Shots eventually finished rock-bottom of the table.

ADMINISTRATION AND RETURN TO THE CONFERENCE PREMIEROn May 2nd 2013, just five days after their relegation from League 2, Aldershot Town officially entered administration with reported debts of £1.4 million.

Following a period of uncertainty over the club’s survival, which led to the departure of the majority of

the playing staff and numerous redundancies behind-the-scenes, the club exited administration under the auspices of a CVA on July 30th, with a consortium led by former chairman Shahid Azeem taking ownership of the club on August 1st.

The Shots began the 2013-14 season with a 10-point deduction as a punishment for the aforementioned entry into administration. With a hastily-assembled squad (some of whom were signed in the hotel the night before the season’s opener at Grimsby Town) that hadn’t trained together, even the most ardent Shots fan wasn’t expecting the draw and three wins in the opening seven games that saw the deficit wiped out by the first week of September.

However, within two months of that achievement, Andy Scott’s men were knocked out the FA Cup by Gloucestershire side Shortwood United, who were three divisions and 65 places below them in the football pyramid; what made the 2-1 replay defeat (following a 1-1 draw) more embarrassing was that it occurred in North East Hampshire!

An eight-game winless run across January, February and March saw the Shots eliminated at the quarter-finals stage of the FA Trophy (by Havant and Waterlooville) and plunged into a relegation fight. However, Brett Williams’ 24 x league goals coupled with the return of Brentford loanee midfielder Manny Oyeleke and the arrival of centre half Mark Phillips (on loan from Southend United) resulted in the club’s Conference Premier place being retained. The team attained four wins out of seven at the end of the season, with safety being assured by a 2-1 win on Easter Monday at local rivals Woking in the penultimate game – Mission Accomplished!

EXITING CVA AND STARTING FROM ZERO IN 2014-15On July 31st 2014, Aldershot Town announced that they had paid off all of their debts, which enables them to exit the auspices of the CVA after just 12 months – a massive two years ahead of the required date! The icing on the cake came with the additional news that the club had made “a modest profit” in the first year of trading under the new owners.

Even though the fans’ expectation levels were low, the 2014-15 campaign still yielded very little joy. The only real highlight was the 1-0 victory over League 2 side Portsmouth at home in an FA Cup first round replay following a well-deserved 2-2 draw at Fratton Park. Another strong home display saw a goalless draw claimed against League 1 Rochdale in round 2, although many criticised the fact that the Shots’ dominance didn’t materialise into a victory. A season-defining four days was endured in mid-December – they were surprisingly dumped out of the FA Trophy at home in a first-round tie by Isthmian League Division 1 Southside Burgess Hill Town (who were 55 places below the Shots in the football pyramid) before being brushed aside by Rochdale in their FA Cup second-round replay (4-1). Following constant criticism of his playing style, a run of just one win in 12 games in all competitions (including five successive home league defeats and just two wins in 11 league games that had seen the Shots drop to 18th in the table) led to Andy Scott being sacked in mid-January 2015.

Defender Chris Barker took picked up the reins for the season’s remaining 15 games on a player-caretaker basis and led the Shots to Conference safety before stepping aside in the summer to become player-assistant to newly-appointed ex-Dundee boss Barry Smith.

2015-16 ONWARDSThe 2015-16 season was another one of disappointing performances, epitomised by a club record 8-2 defeat by Chester in early March. The Shots finished the campaign having scored just 23 home league goals, equalled the club record for fewest home league wins (7) and most home league losses (12) as well as setting new club records for most league losses in a season (22) and lowest average home league attendance (1607); the season was also the fourth in succession in which the aforementioned crowd figure had dropped. Conversely, the nine away league victories was the club’s best tally since they won the Conference Premier in 2007-08. Another lasting memory will be the dearth of attempts on goal that the Shots had over the course of the season.

With boss Barry Smith having decided to return to his native Scotland, May 2016 saw Gary Waddock become the first-ever Shots boss to return, which ultimately led to the Shots starting a campaign with a higher level of hope than had been seen for many a season.

R Walker became Shots boss Danny Searle’s fourth signing of the summer when joined from Dover Athletic in June 2019.

He spent seven years with the Whites, amassing a total of 279 appearances and helped guide the Kent side to promotion from the National League South. He started his career at Brighton & Hove Albion, making one solitary first team appearance, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 League One victory over Yeovil Town in 2010, he also spent time out on loan at Eastbourne Borough and Welling United whilst at the Seagulls before joining Dover in 2012.

Left-back who came through Arsenal’s Academy before moving to Aston Villa’s Academy in 2011.

Failed to make an appearance at the Villans but had spells out on loan at League Two side Luton Town, where he made his professional debut and at Kidderminster Harriers in the National League Premier. Signed permanently with Colchester United in 2016 where he made 29 appearances before moving to the Shots initially on loan for a month, before signing permanently at the end of January 2018 where his performances earned him another one-year deal with the club in May.

Chislett joined the Shots from Metropolitan Police in June 2019.

He originally played in the Shots Academy side until the age of 15 before moving to the Old Bill. He was a part of the Police’s successful FA Youth Cup campaign in 2016 that saw them reach the 4th Round. He broke into their senior team and became a key player in the heart of midfield, setting up the decisive goal that sent the Police to the FA Cup 1st Round in their upset over National League side Havant & Waterlooville last season, he also scored a superb 25-yard opener in the Police’s Super Play-Off Final defeat to Tonbridge Angels, he has also played for Basingstoke Town.

Shields is a 22-year old Scottish striker who started his career at Albion Rovers.

He then signed for Sunderland after a breakthrough season at the Wee Rovers, scoring 12 goals in 27 games. He failed to make an appearance for the first team at the Black Cats but impressed in their U23 squad. He was then loaned to Scottish Championship side Alloa Athletic last season and helped them reach the Quarter-Finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup.

That season also saw records set for victories in a Conference season (31) and most number of home wins by Aldershot FC or Aldershot Town, with 18, as well as triumph in the Setanta Shield and a run to the semi-final of the FA Trophy.

“It’s a situation I never thought I’d be in but I’m delighted to be here,” said Waddock. “It’s a nice feeling. I like to assemble squads that I would like to watch. I’ve missed the people here and I’ve missed the supporters – the atmosphere they created at home games was amazing and I loved that. We have to be able to give them something to cheer about and we’re going to try our best to get this place rocking again.”

“Gary was clearly the number one choice for a lot of supporters, and he was our number one choice too,” explained Chairman Shahid Azeem. “The Board have listened to what the fans have told us, but it was a tough decision. Ultimately, though, we need somebody who will galvanise the Club and bring supporters back to the EBB Stadium. I hope that all Aldershot Town supporters are as excited about what Gary can achieve here as we are.”

The Kingsbury-born 54 year-old began his career with Queen’s Park Rangers in 1979 and rapidly forged a fine reputation as a tough-tackling midfielder. In a career spanning 491 Football League appearances, Gary played in the 1982 FA Cup Final, won the Second Division championship in 1982-83, and subsequently played for Charleroi, Millwall, Swindon Town, Bristol Rovers and Luton Town. He also won 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland and narrowly missed out on selection for the 1990 World Cup.

Gary’s coaching career began back at Loftus Road, with the Rangers Academy, from where he graduated, in February 2006, to first-team manager.

Having taken The Shots into the Football League in his first season, Aldershot Town finished 15th in League Two and had risen to sixth when, after two-and-half-years at the EBB Stadium, Gary was appointed a manager of Wycombe Wanderers, in October 2009. He led the Chairboys to promotion back into League One in 2011.

Following a spell as Head of Coaching at MK Dons, Gary was appointed Head Coach at Oxford United and, in 2014, Assistant Manager and then Caretaker Manager at Portsmouth. He joined Barnet last year but now returns to management with the Club where he made his name.

Football historian LEIGH EDWARDS highlights leading Aldershot Town figures and achievements over

40 Conference seasons

Striker Martin Foyle was an important figure in Aldershot’s 1986-87 promotion success and FA Cup run. Signing professional for Southampton in August 1980, he joined Aldershot in July 1984 and was leading marksman as they took eventual winners Norwich City to a League Cup third round replay in 1984-85. He netted 35 goals in 98 League games for the Shots before moving to Oxford United in March 1987, having impressed against them in that season’s FA Cup upset. Joining Port Vale in June 1991, he became their manager and since had spells in charge of York City, Northwich Victoria, Hereford United and Southport.

Former England Youth winger Bobby Barnes scored twice in Aldershot’s 1986-87 Fourth Division play-off final triumph. Signing professional for West Ham in September 1980, he helped win the FA Youth Cup in 1981 and gained top-flight experience before moving to Aldershot in March 1986. He also starred in the 1986-87 FA Cup run and netted 26 goals in 49 League games prior to joining Swindon Town in October 1987, then played for AFC Bournemouth and Northampton Town before helping Peterborough United clinch promotion in 1991-92. Later with Partick Thistle, he became a financial consultant with the PFA.

Striker David Puckett was Aldershot’s top scorer in three successive seasons. Initially with Southampton, he helped them finish League Championship runners-up in 1983-84 and joined AFC Bournemouth as part of the Colin Clarke deal in July 1986. He featured in their 1986-87 Third Division title triumph and joined Aldershot in January 1989. Netting 50 goals in 113 League outings, he returned to AFC Bournemouth when the Shots folded in March 1992 and played for Woking in their 1994 FA Trophy Final success. He later had spells with Weymouth, Newport (IOW), Salisbury, Havant, Wokingham, Bashley and Eastleigh.

Ex-England Semi-Pro international goalkeeper Nikki Bull was a key figure as Aldershot Town won the Conference Premier title and were FA Trophy semi-finalists in 2007-08. Signing professional at QPR in July 1999, he joined Aldershot in May 2002 and featured in their 2002-03 Isthmian League title triumph. He starred as they were Conference play-off finalists in 2003-04 and was ever-present in three successive seasons, making 198 Conference appearances for the Shots before joining Brentford in August 2009. Moving to Wycombe Wanderers in July 2010, he has since been player-boss of Margate and Leatherhead.NIKKI

Terry Brown managed Aldershot Town to the Isthmian League Premier Division title in 2002-03. He played for Hayes, Slough Town and Hayes again, then was Wokingham’s player-coach, returning to Hayes as manager in November 1993. Guiding them to the Isthmian League Premier Division title in 1995-96, then third place in the Conference in 1998-99, he became Aldershot’s boss in March 2002. He led them to the Conference play-offs in 2003-04 and 2004-05. Appointed manager of AFC Wimbledon in May 2007, he plotted two consecutive promotion successes and has since managed Margate and Basingstoke Town.

Former Republic of Ireland international midfielder Gary Waddock managed Aldershot Town’s 2007-08 Conference title triumph. Initially with QPR, he played in the 1982 FA Cup final, also helping them win the Second Division title in 1982-83. Injury appeared to end his career but after a spell at Charleroi, he joined Millwall in August 1989, then QPR again, Bristol Rovers and Luton Town. He returned to QPR as a coach, then manager. Appointed Aldershot’s boss in May 2007, he moved to Wycombe in October 2009, plotting promotion in 2010-11, then managed Oxford United and Aldershot again. Now Southend’s assistant-boss.

Len Walker plotted Aldershot’s 1986-87 Fourth Division play-off final success. The Shots won just two of their opening nine games, with Mike Ring grabbing a hat-trick against Lincoln, but three successive wins in December lifted them to sixth place. They beat top-flight Oxford United 3-0 in the FA Cup third round and took Barnsley to a fourth round replay. Aldershot also reached the Freight Rover Trophy southern final. Top scorer Martin Foyle joined Oxford United in March but the Shots had a ten-match unbeaten run and qualified for the play-offs in sixth place. They beat Bolton 3-2, then Wolves 3-0 in the two-legged final.

New manager Gary Waddock guided Aldershot Town to the Conference title with a record 101 points in 2007-08. The Shots lost two of their first three home games, including a 3-0 defeat by Torquay, but then raced to the top with six straight wins. They lost at Stevenage and Burton, then regained pole position with seven consecutive victories. John Grant was leading marksman with 20 goals as the Shots gained a record 31 wins, finishing 15 points clear at the top. They clinched the ‘double’ with victory over Rushden & Diamonds in the Setanta Shield but lost to eventual winners Ebbsfleet United in the FA Trophy semi-finals.

Aldershot Town stormed to the Isthmian League title with a club record 105 points in 2002-03. Terry Brown’s side won all but two of their opening 11 Isthmian League games and remained in pole position for the rest of the season. The Shots overcame a mid-season loss of firepower and resisted a late challenge from Canvey Island, with a ten-match unbeaten finish including a 5-1 win over St Albans City and 6-2 demolition of Hendon. England Semi-Pro international Roscoe D’Sane was leading marksman, while experienced trio Paul Moody, Karl Ready and skipper Ray Warburton made a significant contribution.

Aldershot Town reached the Conference play-off final in 2003-04. The newly promoted Shots began life in the Conference with a 2-1 victory at home to Accrington Stanley and won their first four matches to go top of the table. They remained in contention with an eight-match unbeaten run and beat Forest Green Rovers and Grays Athletic in the FA Cup before losing 1-0 at Colchester in the second round. Despite failing to win any of their last five games they qualified for the play-offs in fifth place. Aldershot drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury in the final but lost on penalties. Roscoe D’Sane was leading marksman with 27 goals overall.

UK OVER 65 FINALS AT WORCESTER UNIVERSITY

We arrived as the smallest set up, playing against the top teams in the country after the over 65’s qualified for the WFA UK National Finals at Worcester University on Sunday 15th September after a thrilling play-off victory over Leyton Orient. On an extremely hot day, we opened against the experienced Norwich Socca which saw Martin Payne’s penalty give us a 1-0 win. Next up was the northern power of Wigan Athletic where Alan Barton was on the scoresheet. We managed to hold on as Nick produced a string of fine saves taking us into our final group match versus Bedworth. Two goals from Alan Barton gave us a 2-1 victory which saw us head into the semi-final where we were drawn against Birmingham City although during the match, we lost Richard Fincher to a groin injury. Unfortunately, we were unable to overcome Birmingham City, a team of international players with many trophies but it had been a brilliant day out and we are now able to say that we are in the top 4 teams in the UK. If you fancy joining us for walking football at the Hive, all you need to do is turn up! It’s a great way to stay fit and have a laugh and you only need to be able to walk and breathe, hopefully see you soon on the Astro-Turf pitches!

THERE WAS A SENSE OF DÉJÀ VU AT THE HIVE LONDON AS BARNET BEAT MAIDENHEAD UNITED 1-0 WITH JOSH WALKER THE

The Bees made two changes from the side that beat Eastleigh at the end of last month. Wes Fonguck started for the first time since re-signing for the club and he was joined by Loic Hernandez who both replaced Dan Sparkes and Harry Taylor respectively.

The first chance of the game fell Maidenhead’s way on four minutes when James Akintunde twisted and turned before drilling low into Scott Loach’s gloves.

Up the other end, Fonguck found Ephron Mason-Clark who let rip from distance, but his effort deflected high and wide.

Fonguck was in the thick of it again on 20 minutes when he chipped in a fantastic ball towards Simeon Akinola at the back-post, but his header was saved.

With seven minutes of the half remaining, Mason-Clark found Fonguck in the box before the Bees’ returning number 18 poked the ball wide via a deflection.

Moments later, Charlee Adams tested Taye Ashby-Hammond in the Maidenhead net, striking first time on the edge of the box but his low effort was well saved.

The Bees continued to pose an attacking threat in the latter stages of the half as the Magpies stood strong to maintain their clean sheet.

The second half began just how the first ended as the hosts continued to pose danger going forward and it nearly paid off on the hour mark when Cheye Alexander’s shot flew over.

Fonguck nearly marked his return with a goal as he was played through before shooting just wide of the upright.

The Bees did finally have their noses in front though after Adams charged forward before his initial shot was saved, falling to the feet of Walker who blasted home on 66 minutes.

James Akintunde had an equaliser in his sight when he tried his luck from distance, curling the ball around Loach via a deflection but his shot fell narrowly wide.

Ryan Upward went close as well soon after as his cross from the right nearly floated into the top corner but Barnet’s number one was on hand to palm away the danger.

In stoppage time, substitute Jack Barham, who replaced Walker just minutes before, nearly slotted home the second but his effort from close range fizzed wide.

The miss didn’t prove costly as the Bees held on to clinch maximum points and end the Magpies’ unbeaten run on the road this season.

Jake Kirby, the Stockport County winger, has decided to retire from football, aged 25. He featured many times for the Hatters last season, as they claimed the National League North title, and had already played eight times this season. “There has been no simple or singular reason for Jake’s recent decision, just a strong feeling for change” said County manager Jim Gannon. “We have talked over the situation extensively and were happy to support him fully in his decision to leave football at this point. For whatever reason, or circumstance people find themselves in, it is not for us to seek to fully understand or solve, but simply to listen and support and help them find the right way for themselves”.

Speculation and mystery surround the managerial position at National League South side Billericay Town after manager Harry Wheeler was absent from the sides’ game over the weekend. Promotion hopefuls Ricay drew 2-2 away at Oxford City on Saturday, a result which saw them end the weekend in 7th place, the bottom playoff spot. Controversial chairman Glenn Tamplin and former Tottenham Hotspur player Jamie O’Hara took charge of the game, with it being reported that Wheeler has been temporarily relieved of his management duties, after reportedly having had a number of issues surrounding the team selection. The club have not announced anything regarding Wheeler, whether he is still at the club or has departed. Tamplin was also unavailable for comment after the game. In 2018, Wheeler guided the Essex side to the Isthmian League Premier Division, Isthmian League Cup and Essex Senior Cup titles, but was sacked by Tamplin that August, before being reappointed in January.

Police are now investigating reports that former England Womens manager Mark Sampson received threatening messages. The 36 year old was appointed caretaker manager of the League 2 side Stevenage last week, after Dino Maamria was dismissed from his managerial position after Boro’s poor start to the season. Hertfordshire Police are currently investigating the situation under the Malicious Communications Act, after Sampson reportedly received some abusive messages “via telephone and Whatsapp”. Having previously manager Bristol Academy in the WSL, Sampson led the England Women’s team to a third place finish at the 2015 Women’s World Cup but was later sacked in 2017.

Championship and Yorkshire rivals Barnsley and Leeds United are “working together” to assess the crowd trouble that spoiled last Sunday’s derby at Oakwell. The game, which was won 2-0 by United thanks two late two goals in the

last six minutes, was marred by violence by spectators, and resulted in the arrest of three people on the suspicions of public order offences and another man on the suspicion of assault. Meanwhile, in the away end, Leeds fans confronted stewards. South Yorkshire Police also launched their own investigation following the incidents. “Barnsley Football Club and Leeds United Football Club are greatly disappointed by reports of violence at yesterday’s game and will be working together to assess the matter,” said a statement. The result saw United move back to the top of the table, whist the Tykes moved back into the relegation zone, having been promoted last season.

This weekend saw the second qualifying round of the FA Vase take place, and there were several local clubs in action. On Friday, Harrow based Broadfields United romped to a 5-1 home win over Hanworth Villa. On Saturday, Enfield 1893 claimed the bragging rights of Enfield, after they defeated Enfield Borough 2-1. Colney Heath claimed a 2-0 win over Haverhill Rovers, Wembley succumbed to a 3-1 home loss to Risborough Rangers, who are a division below, and Buckingham Athletic stormed to a 6-0 home win over Hillingdon FC. Hillingdon Borough earned a replay tonight after a 3-3 draw away against Harborough Town, who play a division above.

Oxhey Jets won 2-0 at North Greenford United, Hackney Wick travelled to Langford and came away with a 5-3 win on penalties, after a 1-1 draw, and London Colney fell to a 4-2 home defeat against Baldock Town. Redbridge were defeated 4-1 at FC Clacton, Newbury Forest were beaten 3-0 away at White Ensign and London Tigers also got knocked out after a 2-0 loss away at AFC Hayes. The winners claim a £725 prize, whilst losers get £250. The draw for the first round proper took place yesterday, before the time of writing this. Those ties are set to take place on 12th October.

Thanks to their 3-3 draw away at Leicester City Women on Sunday, London Bees currently find themselves in a decent fifth place in the FA Women’s Championship. The Bees have so far won two and dawn one of their four games so far, leaving them with seven points. Sundays game saw them fall down to a 2-0 scoreline early on in the game, before having a second half comeback, which resulted in them going 3-2 up with only a few minutes to go. However, they could not hold on for the valuable three points at the Farley Way Stadium in Quorn, unfortunately conceding a late goal in added time to draw the game.

London Road in their biggest victory in eight years, but with just 36% of the possession. The Dale had almost two third of the ball, but were clearly wasteful with the ball, as the Posh had a far superior shot tally, and goal scoring ability. The Cambridgeshire side found themselves 3-0 up at half time, and had scored six times by the 62nd minute. The result pushed United into the bottom playoff spot, with the biggest goal difference in the league, whilst the Dale ended the weekend in 16th position.

Italian TV station TopCalcio24 have banned pundit Luciano Passirani from its channel after he made racist comments against former Premier League striker Romelu Lukaku. Starting his career with Anderlecht in his home country Belgium, he spent three seasons at Chelsea, which included a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion, before a transfer to Everton, then Manchester United. He started this season with two goals in two games for Inter Milan after his transfer there this summer. Passirani made comments about murdering people and giving him bananas. The said that, despite his quick apologies, he would no longer participate in broadcasts, and that he would leave the company.

including interviews with Bradshaw and his sister, with the pair also featuring on Tameside Radio to launch the initiative. The club stated that the one off shirts will also be auctioned off in the coming days, with the funds subsequently raised being donated to the club’s own foundation as well as the World Suicide Prevention Day campaign.

Ryan Lowe, the manager of Plymouth Argyle, has criticised his squad after their “unacceptable” 1-0 defeat away at Port Vale at the weekend, and has said that he is ready to make some changes to the side, dropping some key players. The side started the season well, winning their first two league games, including topping the table for the first week of the season. However, since then, their league form has slumped, having won just one league game since 10th August, drawing two and losing the other three since. “It’s not good enough, it’s not acceptable. But I’m responsible for it, I pick the lads, I pick the team and I’ll take the criticism” Lowe said. “We’ll make sure we’ll get it right because people will start coming out of the team, they’re not doing their jobs, it’s a simple as that”.

Saturday also saw a strange feet occur in League 1. Peterborough United defeated Rochdale 6-0 at

Elsewhere in women’s football, Tottenham Hotspur Women played their first home game here at the Hive on Sunday. Having finished 2nd in the FA Women’s Championship last season, the side now play in the Barclays Women’s Super League. On Sunday, they took on Liverpool Women in a league fixture. With 996 fans in attendance, the tie was won 1-0 by Spurs, thanks to a converted penalty on the brink of half time. Later in the half, Liverpool had a player sent off, and could not really get back into the game after. They play here again this Sunday, against Reading Women, in the Continental Cup.

Curzon Ashton played their National League North game against Brackley Town on Saturday wearing a special commemorative shirt, to support the 2019 World Suicide Prevention Day campaign. The Manchester side aimed to raise awareness of suicide after the clubs’ manager Mark Bradshaw’s nephew took his own life four years ago, aged 35. LONDON BEES PLAY OUT A SIX-GOAL THRILLER WITH LEICESTER CITY WOMEN AT FARLEY WAY STADIUM.

LEICESTERCITY WOMEN

LONDONBEES

-Lee Burch’s side found themselves behind after just three minutes as Leigh Dugmore fired home a spectacular volley to put her side in the lead.

Lucy Johnson added a second on 22 minutes to put the hosts in the ascendancy before Lauren Pickett was on hand to bring one back with virtually the last kick of the first half. The Bees were the much brighter side in the second period and made their pressure count as Nikita Whinnet and Pickett both found the back of the net.

However, it wasn’t meant to be as Nat Johnson headed home a late equaliser. Megan Alexander was on the line to clear, but the officials awarded the goal meaning the points are shared.

The Foxes dominated the opening proceedings and went ahead in some style as Dugmore, on the spin, half-volleyed from inside the box into the bottom left corner.Looking to respond, the Bees came closest through Bonnie Horwood as she headed just over the bar on two occasions, though Leicester added their second after 20 minutes as Lucy Johnson smashed into the top corner.

Pickett almost brought one back after dancing past two opposition players to find space, though her eventual shot was wide of the near post. Just a minute later, however, she found the back of the net after coolly slotting home under pressure from the Foxes defender. What a vital goal it proved to be.

Following the restart, Sarah Quantrill was called into action as she impressively tipped onto the bar following a shot from distance, and from that moment on, it was all Bees.Whinnett added her team’s second of the game having got hold of a long through ball before lobbing over the helpless goalkeeper.

Now the dominant side, Leicester almost found themselves level completely against the run of play as Lachante Paul went on a mazy run; her shot, however, was denied by the far post.

With just over five minutes to play, Pickett thought she had won the game for the Bees after hammering home following the goalkeeper’s parry. But just two minutes later, Leicester were level through Nat Johnson. Having put her head on an in-swinging corner, her attempt beat the crowd and flew agonisingly over the line, to the dismay of the Bees 11.

The referee blew to bring an end to an entertaining 90 minutes and the Bees now look ahead to their Continental Cup tie at Bristol City.

Bees team:

Quantrill, Brooks (52’ Ward-Chambers), Robert, West, Gamby, Alexander, Gibson (72’ Will), Horwood, Hazard, Whinnett, Pickett

Unused subs:
