Founded in 1949 by Robert E. Barnhill, Sr., our company’s success is built on the values, principles and

vision of our founder who believed that there is power in people. His passion for people still drives

us today. Barnhill is a full-service construction company offering services in commercial building, site

infrastructure and transportation construction. Consistently ranked among the Top 200 Contractors in

the US by ENR, the company is headquartered in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Offices are located in

Today our company is led by Rob Barnhill who serves as president of the company. Rob represents the

third generation of management and continues both his grandfather and his father’s vision of the business,

leading the company to even greater levels of success. Bob Barnhill continues to direct the company

in his role as chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Rob and Bob have a clear vision for the

future and the qualities that shaped the company.

More than 70% of our business comes from repeat clients and we are proud to have developed strong

relationships throughout the construction industry. We understand the importance of maintaining their trust

The Commercial Building Division provides construction services to the industrial, biotech, retail, mixed-use, hospitality, correctional, institutional and military markets. Contracting formats are diversified and include general construction, construction management, design/build and fast-track deliveries. Services include budget and estimating, scheduling, constructability analysis, value engineering, and project management.

The division, headquartered in Raleigh, includes offices in Rocky

Mount and Charlotte and has successfully delivered construction projects totaling over $1.7 billion over the past decade.

Driven by schedule, we set a higher standard for productivity and embrace technology on each project. Our fleet includes bulldozers and motorgraders outfitted with Topcon® 3DMC2, MMGPS® on both grading and paving machines, multiple base and rover and insight GPS systems. It’s all about efficiency. We estimate that 3D modeling and GPS machine control can increase productivity by up to 50% for some operations and cut survey costs by up to 75%. Reducing downtime of equipment and rework reduces fuel consumption and associated green house gas emissions by some 40%.

Since constructing our first plant in 1966, Barnhill has embraced asphalt manufacturing technology every step of the way. With 15 operating asphalt plants from Raleigh to the Coast, we are a leader in the industry. Geared for high production, efficiency and productivity are at the heart of what we do.

To keep up with the increased demand for high-quality material, we focus on excellence in manufacturing and maintenance. Our plant superintendents maximize plant efficiency and productivity.

Every mix produced in Barnhill’s plants is quality tested to meet DOT specifications.

We incorporate environmentally sound pavement designs with larger percentages of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) and post consumer asphalt shingles (PRAS). Porous pavement designs that allow water to drain through the pavement, providing cost effective storm-water management systems that promote infiltration and improve water quality. Our double barrel green plants allow a warm mix asphalt to be produced
