allocation. Coordinates all congressional correspondence and is responsible for budget narratives. Assures that the overall Division program is developed to meet the priorities of the Cancer Prevention and Control mandate of the National Cancer Program. Ensures overall coordination of the program by working with the Research Group Chiefs and their staffs to develop program plans and specific initiatives responsive to cancer prevention and control research and application needs. Oversees the preparation of annual program implementation plans, including the analysis and evaluation of these plans. Responsible for coordination between Division programs and other Federal and private agency programs. Responsible for overall Division program evaluation. Serves as the liaison for planning and evaluation with the Planning Officer, NCI. The Division of Cancer Prevention has an annual budget of approximately $210 million with a staff of over 100 individuals.

Health Promotion Research Officer, National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, Health Promotion Sciences Branch.

 Responsibilities included the development of concepts suitable for acceptance by the Board of Scientific Counselors. Identifying theoretical foundations and principles suitable for intervention research initiatives. Coordinating and monitoring program evaluation of extramural research on health promotion interventions for cancer control. Representing the Branch and the Division to other Federal, State and local Health Departments and to private organizations. Providing consultation to scientists in the field on the design and testing of community health promotion interventions.

 Program Director, "Integrating Tobacco Education Programs into the School System." Chair, Stockholm Intervention Working Group - collaborative effort for the design of a community-based nutrition intervention focused on cancer risk reduction in Stockholm, Sweden.

 Director of Evaluation, "Eat for Health" NCI/Giant Food, Inc. Project - this project was a supermarket-based point of purchase dietary intervention for cancer risk reduction.

 Task Leader, Meta-Analysis of Physician-Directed Smoking Cessation Programs.

 Task Leader, Analysis of INSURE Project Data Set. The INSURE Project is a large scale quasi-experimental study investigating the feasibility of insuring for preventive health services. The focus of this task is on the effects of physician delivered smoking cessation protocols.

 Acting Branch Chief, Health Promotion Sciences Branch (HPSB), Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, National Cancer Institute. Responsibilities included providing the scientific and technical leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion intervention research. Monitored progress of Branch grants and contracts. Provided administrative and operational oversight of all Branch activities. Provided technical and administrative supervision to seven professional and three support staff assigned to the Branch. Initiated and maintained contact with DCPC and other components of NIH, Federal agencies, and private organizations with responsibilities related to the activities of the Branch. Prepared and interpreted cancer control policy on areas related to the Branch and delivered oral and written presentations on the current directions of the HPSB.

Task Leader for the National Institute for Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse contract for the evaluation of its national mass media campaign. Activities included survey design, implementation and analysis.

 Directed a Community Implementation Study--intensive studies in twelve cities throughout the country--designed to identify effective community mobilization strategies in alcohol education. Developed innovative research approaches to monitor the community involvement of intermediary groups, and conducted special interview studies with physicians, educators, and key people in the business community. Responsible for report on capacity building and interface among public, non-profit, and voluntary agencies in alcohol education. Analytic consultant for the evaluation of the "Health Style" campaign sponsored by the Office of Health Information and Health Promotion (OHIP). Responsible for the conduct of an experimental study of the influence of mass media health risk assessment material on the beliefs and behavioral intentions of white, Black, and Hispanic populations in Denver and Phoenix. Responsible for analysis of a survey to test alternative models of health education targeted at nutrition, smoking, exercise, and alcohol abuse.

 Task Leader for the National Institute of Arthritis, Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Disease contract, which determines suitable methodologies to evaluate the non-research components of Multipurpose Arthritis Centers (MAC). Activities included an analysis of MAC objectives and activities and the determination of suitable evaluation methodologies to evaluate MAC activities, i.e., the areas of professional education, patient education and community demonstration projects.

 Author for the DHHS Office of Health Information and Promotion publication "Guidelines for the Development of Community Health Promotion Programs."
