The broad purpose of the State Assessments is to provide information to teachers and schools to guide the redesign of curricula and instructional strategies to enable students to achieve the academic standards categories.

The areas assessed this year were mathematics and reading at grades 3-8 and 11; writing at grades 5, 8 and 11; and science at grades 4, 8 and 11.
