Does the space have adequate heating and cooling vents and circulation? When it comes to defining a livable space, one of the very first things that an appraiser would do, is check to see if it has heating and cooling. The next question would be if the source of heat and AC is generated from the home’s main system or of an independent unit. Generally speaking, if the living quarters above ground have heat and air in every room- so shall the basement.

Is the quality of workmanship the same below ground as above? The basement should be an extension of the house, not a separate area. The décor does not necessary have to match with the rest of the house, but it should be in full repair. The basics that would be expected in a finished off basement are: • Finished and painted sheetrock• Carpet or finished flooring (laminate, tile, wood)• Finished ceiling with no exposed pipes or wires• Lighting

All, and not some, of the space must be completed. Try to imagine that area as upstairs in your home. You would not have some bedrooms done and others still under construction would you? These same rules apply to basement renovations, NJ. Every room, including laundry and utility spaces, should be finished, painted and heated/cooled.

This does not define whether or not it is finished, but it definitely you may want to consider when discussing basement remodeling, NJ. Some homes are only able to access the basement area by going outdoors to get there. Allowing access to the inside of the house is far more appealing and provides a nicer flow to the floor plans above. The most appealing scenario for many owners is multi access. Walk out areas that lead to the backyard are a great feature if the structure of the house allows.
