日常生活における様々な場面での既習文型を用いた、自発的な発話へと導く。

TARGET STUDENT This course is basically for the students who have no knowledge of Japanese language

However, students who have studied Japanese before may be placed in this class based on

their placement test results.

COURSE DESCRIPTION This is a basic Japanese course. You will learn how to write and read Hiragana and

Katakana, and also get used to Japanese pronunciation. By mastering Hiragana and

Katakana, and using a textbook written in Japanese, you will quickly learn how to use basic

Japanese. You also learn basic grammar patterns, practice what you learned in drills and

apply them in actual conversations. This will help you to speak Japanese in various daily

scenes, and furthermore, to understand Japanese culture and customs.

・ Mid-term and final exams are given on designated dates: November 4 and January 6 respectively.

・ You will be also a given a separate test to make sure you have learned Hiragana and Katakana correctly.

PREREQUISITE

The knowledge of lower elementary level grammar is required. The knowledge of hiragana, katakana and some kanji (approximately 50) is also required. COURSE DESCRIPTION and OBJECTIVES

This course is designed for students who have some knowledge of basic Japanese grammar and have already learned hiragana, katakana and some kanji. In this semester, students will start from the review of lower elementary level grammar and advance to upper elementary level. This course will help students acquire four necessary skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. By the end of this course, students are expected to be able to communicate in proper Japanese in everyday practical situations. Students will also study approximately 200 kanji in this semester. The study of kanji will not only develop their abilities to read and write kanji but also increase their vocabulary. COURSE MATERIALS

中級の日本語文法を学ぶ。文法の基礎を中心に、漢字・聴解・読解・語彙・会話・作文能力な

どの向上を目指す。

学期の初めに学生は既習の初級文法の復習を行う。初級文法は日本語運用能力にとって非常に

大切な基礎であり、実際に使える文法能力を身につけることにより、日本語でのコミュニケー

ション能力を向上させる。初級文法にかける時間は学習者のレベル及び運用能力によって変更

される。

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course, students are expected to master intermediate Japanese grammar, and practically and effectively demonstrate their skills in Kanji, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. At the beginning of the semester, students are doing "hands-on" reinforcement of all learned grammar" to have real world application. This class aims to improve student’s Japanese communicative abilities based on proper grammatical skills. How long we spend for basic grammar will vary depend on the ability of participants.

There will be small tests after each lessons, and two exams in this semester. Regarding kanji, there will be small tests every week and two bigger exams in this semester.

Class attendance is required. You have to inform if you will be absent. If your attendance is less than 2/3, you will not get any grade/credits. If you late for the class three times, it will be counted as 1 absence.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a unique, specially designed Japanese course to offer students the hands-on

opportunity to learn and study about current Japanese cultural and societal issues and

topics in the Japanese language. Students do presentations at the end of the semester in

Japanese.

The objective of this course is to engage students in cultural/social issues, thought and

discussion while at the same time increasing their Japanese vocabulary; using “real life”

Japanese reading and media materials; and incorporating all four skills of reading, speaking,

writing, and listening. Students will learn how to do a presentation in Japanese, including

research and questionnaire survey.

In this class, students are required to participate in class activities. In other to discuss

This class is for students with the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 or Japanese proficiency equivalent to this level. COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course, you will acquire the Japanese language level equivalent to the level 1 of

Japanese Language Proficiency Test in all four skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening.

You will aim to achieve the following language skills.

・Reading To understand newspaper articles and novels speedily and correctly. ・Writing To write various types of Japanese writings using JLPT Grade 1-level expressions and Kanji Test Grade 2-level Chinese characters. ・Speaking To respond properly in each situation using honorific words. ・Listening To understand daily conversations, TV programs, and movies. このクラスは日本語能力試験２級合格、あるいはそれと同等レベルの知識を持つ学生を対象と

している。

目目目目標標標標いろいろな分野の日本語に多く接し、さまざまな日本語の表現や日本の文化習慣などについて

学ぶことがこの授業の目標である。「日本語を学ぶ」だけでなく「日本語で学ぶ」ことで、よ

り実践的な読み・書き・話し・聞きの能力を身に付ける。

授業授業授業授業のののの内容内容内容内容日本の映画を用いて、自然なスピードの日本語の聞き取りの練習を行う。同時に、語彙や文法、

背景となっている歴史や習慣を学ぶ。週に一度、いろいろなテーマについて、日本語で短い作

文を書く。これを通じて、原稿用紙や便箋の使い方、日本語の文章によく使われる表現、手紙

やビジネス文書等の決まりを学ぶ。毎回学生は興味のあるトピックについて短いスピーチをす

る。一学期（15 週）の間に、一人の学生は少なくとも2回のスピーチをしなければならない。

そのほか、新聞記事やエッセイの読解、ニュース等の聞き取りなどを随時行う。

This class is for students with the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 or equivalent level. COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course, you will Japanese expressions, culture, and customs through various types of Japanese. You not only study Japanese language, but also learn practical reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through the language study. You practice comprehending spoken Japanese at natural speed using Japanese movies, and at

the same time, you learn not only words and grammar used, but also historical background

events and customs.

You write a short essay on a variety of topics once a week. Through this writing practice, you

learn how to use Japanese-style manuscript paper and letter paper, how to write personal and

business letters, and also frequently used Japanese writing expressions.

You make a short speech on a topic they are interested in every class meeting. Everyone must

make a speech at least 2 times a semester (fifteen weeks).

You occasionally have reading practices using newspaper articles and essays, and listening

practices using regular TV news.
