Training & Certification

Welcome to the Surgical & Clinical Skills Center!

This course is American Heart Association Certified. Before you can begin the modules you will need

to register and pay the course fee on-line. For registration please go to: http://go.uth.edu/scscpay.

Fees:

1. BLS…$80.00 (includes all fees, access to part I on-line training modules, parts II/III skills

session, provider card, and on-line BLS manual access for 60 days)

2. ACLS…$180.00 (includes all fees, access to part I on-line training modules, parts II/III skills

session, provider card, and on-line ACLS manual access for 60 days)

3. Payments are not accepted in person or over the telephone.

4. Refund Policy: When you register, you are assigned an access 'key', the system marks the

"key" as used. It can only be used by you and cannot be reassigned to someone else. Once you

register, a refund can no longer be issued.

There are 3 Parts to the Course:

1. All 3 parts must be purchased and completed through the SCSC. We do not accept part I

purchased elsewhere. All parts must be completed within 60 days from the registration date.

2. Part I consists of on-line modules and testing that can be accessed from any computer with

internet access. Once completed you will need to e-mail MS_SCSC_CCP@uth.tmc.edu or

call (713) 500-5900 to schedule a time to perform Parts II & III.

3. No hardcopy of the ACLS or BLS manual is provided. Access to the on-line manuals are

included in the registration fee.

4. Parts II & III, the hands-on assessment will be conducted in the SCSC. We are located at 6431

Fannin Street, MSB B.120 Houston TX 77030 in the basement of the UTHealth McGovern

Medical School Building. Upon completion, a certificate of completion will be issued which

should suffice for credentialing until the card arrives.

5. Parts II & III can be completed Monday through Friday at either 9am or 2pm. You must

e-mail in advance to schedule a time.

6. The SCSC receives the actual provider cards by mail in approximately 2-3 weeks after course

completion. You will receive an e-mail to come and pick up your card once we receive it. Center

hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

Time requirements:

The average time to complete these courses are noted below. These are average times with a wide

range of variability, and depends on how quickly one can complete each module.

Part I…On-Line Modules on

your computer

Parts II & III…Skills testing

in the SCSC

BLS…new certification 2 hours 30-60 minutes

BLS…renewal 1 ½ -2 hours 30-45 minutes

ACLS…new certification 10 hours 30-45 minutes

ACLS…renewal 3 - 6 hours 30 minutes

Your username is the e-mail address used for registration and your temporary password is:

‘password’ (make sure it’s all lower case)

Once you sign-on, you must change your password.

You may complete the modules in one session or over multiple sessions as your schedule allows.

It is best to complete an individual module before logging off. Once a module is complete, you do not

need to redo the module when you later log onto the website to complete the course. If you stop part-

way through a module when logging off, you will have to redo that entire module when you later log

onto the website to complete the course.
