Basic Study Tips For Any Math Class Attend every class session. Math is a symbolic language and uses knowledge learned from the day before to continue to learn new information. Each lesson is built on what you learned previously. SO DON’T MISS CLASS! Do your homework daily; don’t get behind. Schedule 1-2 hours per day for math homework. Because math is a language; it requires a lot of practice to acquire understanding and expertise. Remember, if you don’t use it you will lose it. Study for a weekly test several days in advance. Work through practice tests at the end of the book’s chapters. Work the same type of problem 3-5 times over to focus in on the process (steps). Remember, only the numbers change; the process (steps) that you use for a type of problem stays the same. Practice, practice… practice! Taking a math test, give yourself a minute to relax and look at each page of the test first. Begin with problems that you know best and fan out. You will write a better test if you do this. © Eeris Fritz 2011 Basic math class tips\ The Math Center\ Elftmann Student Success Center\ Dunwoody College of Technology Eeris Fritz [email protected] 612-381-3398 dunwoody.edu/studentsuccess Contact Visit the Math Center in the Elftmann Student Success Center in Black 52 Get the help you need: Guided study Math tutoring Math tip sheets Technical video library and more !
