What Worksets Are:•Assignment for “Stuff” in a Project

•User Created Worksets•Families•Project Standards•Views

Initially Created by Revit thenManaged by Revit

Basic Concepts

Why Use Worksets?•Allow for Multi-User Access

–Even for Small Projects–Contribute to Documentation

Basic Concepts

When to Initiate Worksets•When Project Begins•When Others Need to Contribute

Note: Don’t initiate Worksets in the Project Template. Initiating Worksets can’t be undone.

Not even if you beg Leonid.

Initiating Worksets

Where Does “All This Stuff” ™ Go?•Central File – Central Location (Server)•Local Copies

–Each Users Computer–Drag and Drop to Local Create Local Copy

Workset Structures

Project Structure•Building Type

Team Structure•Disciplines•Single/Multiple Database

Project Roles•Discipline/Tasks

How Many Worksets?- 3 or 4 x Project Team -

Workset Structures

User Created Worksets Aren’t Needed for:•Families•Project Standards•Views

These Worksets are created automatically by Revit and can most often be “Enabled” - on the fly.

Workset Structures

Small Project•Shared Levels and Grids - Default•Exterior (or Renamed “Workset1”) - Default•Interior•Roof•Linked Files (2D, RVT Site)•Rendering

Workset Structures

Medium Projects –•Shared Levels and Grids - Default•Exterior (or Renamed “Workset1”) - Default•Roof•Linked Files •Rendering•Each Interior Floor•Core•Groups•Additional Disciplines (Structural/FFE)

New Functionality in 6.0

New Functionality in 6.0

“Element Borrowing”•Owner of Editable Workset may permit Elements to be Editable by other Users without relinquishing.

New Functionality in 6.0

“Element Borrowing”•Owner of Editable Workset may permit Elements to be Editable by other Users without relinquishing.

•Add Hosted Elements to Non-Editable Worksets once permission is granted.

•Add Non-Hosted Elements to Non-Editable Worksets on the fly.

•Edit Elements without Enabling it’s Workset.

Best Practices

Don’t work directly in the Central File

Initiate Workests – Save to create Central File and then close. Then create Local Copy, open and begin creating additional Worksets.

Simply Drag/Drop Central File to Create Local Copy

Determine Visibility when creating new Worksets

Name Worksets Appropriately

Best Practices

Don’t put Local Copy Directly on Desktop

Save Regularly – Both Locally and Centrally

Avoid Nested Groups; Don’t Copy/Paste Grouped Details

Relinquish Worksets when Saving

Save to Central, Save Locally – then Close.

Use Selective Open/Close
