Santa Sofia or Hagia Sophia was a former Orthodox Patriarchal Basilica, later converted into a mosque and now a museum, in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Sophia is in reality the phonetic transcription into latin from the Greek word "wisdom". The temple was dedicated to the Divine Wisdom; a picture taken from the Book of the wisdom of the Old Testament, that makes reference to the embodiment of the wisdom of God or second person of the Blessed Trinity.

ART AND ARCHITECTURE

Painting and sculpture were designed in Byzantium as arts ancillary or supplementary of the architecture. Worked on all the tiles for decoration (walls and vaults). On the other hand, were highlighted in the so-called industrial arts': the manufacture of jewelry and all kinds of luxury objects, made with gold, silver and precious stones; the silk fabrics; the embroidery and the bindings, very appreciated in the regions we traded.
