History/Rules

• Dr. James Naismith created basketball

• YMCA in Springfield, MA in 1891

•Had to find a sport they could play indoors during the winter months

• 1st game played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets

Number of Players/Court

• 5 players on court for each team during gameplay

• other players are on sideline on the bench

• Players can be substituted in for other players

• Court is 94 feet by 32 feet

• Baskets shot in front of three point line are 2 points

• Baskets shot outside three point line are 3 points
