The "Curious Savage" is pleasant entertainment with oddly likablecharm. Its heroine is an elderly lady with a fortune who wants to spendher money enabling people to do the odd and impractical things for whichthey have always yearned. Her practical step children want to put heraway until she surrenders her millions to them. However. the lady likesher fellow inmates so well that she hates to leave her confinement. It isa curiously funny comedy that is warm and friendly about kind hearts andgentle people.

"Curious Savage" is only the third play to be chosen for a secondproduction by Red Mask. It was previously given at the Palace Theatrein 1955.

It has been a pleasure to work with the talented cast and crew ofthis production. Although veterans are among them, it has been extremelysatisfying to have several newcomers exhibit equal dedication to the taskof making this play come alive.

The gentle inmates of "The Cloisters" are people of warmth anddignity. You may wonder if the insane world is not really that which liesoutside the walls which surround their "Home."

While president of Red Masklast year, Liz appeared in the leading role of Ruth in "Blithe Spirit".She also performed in "Cactus Flower" as Stephanie and a number ofother Red Mask productions, and sho directed the hit "Manique." Lizis a speech therapist with sevcral schools north of Danville. She and herhusband Tex have two children, Matt and Marti.

WILMA TIMM is presently a member of the board for Red Mask. Shewas producer for "Goodbye Charlie", and she appeared in "Plaza Suite".While serving as a past president of Junior Woman's Club, she appearedin several "Follies" productions. Wilma and her husband Jack have threechildren, Tammy, Trudy and Traoi. Wilma enjoys her leisure playing golf.

A play comes to life only when the reader or actor is in sympathy withthe playwright's intentions. The wrong interpretation of a play distortsits meaning. Overemphasis where none was intended destroys the delicatebalance of values and the play then becomes either pointless or in badtaste.

It is important in "The Curious Savage" that the gentle inmates of"The Cloisters" be played with warmth and dignity. Their "Home" isnot an "asylum" nor are these good people "lunatics." Any exaggerationof the roles will rob them of charm and humor. The whole point of theplay is to contrast them with Mrs. Savage's children and the insane out-side world. To depart from this point of view for the sake of easy laughswill rob the play of meaning. And both the performers and the play-wright will have failed in their purpose.

Brad appeared most recently in the Red Mask production of "BlitheSpirit." He has recently appeared at the depot in Urbana in productionsincluding "Happy Days" and "Dracula Sabbath." Brad attends DJCfull time and tends bar part time.Judy Kirk (Fairy Mae)

"Come Back, Little Sheba" was the latest Red Mask performancefor Rick. He has been active in numerous Danville Light Opera pro-ductions including "Hello Dollv" and "Fiddler on the Roof." Dave is making bis debut on the Red Mask stage witb this per-fonnance. He has appeared in several higb school productions andpresently is rehearsing for the role of Sam Benson in "Death of LarryBenson" to be presented one week after closing of this Red Mask pro-duction at Oakwood High School. Next year Dave plans to enter DJCand pursue a career in dramatics.

several years ago. In high school she worked both on and off stage. Thisis ber first adult role. Chrystal and her husband Wayne have a son,Billy. Chrystal's hobbies include writing short stories and poems.Jonathan Kevan Davis (John Thomas)

Kevan is making his debut in the theatre with this role although hehas appeared in a number of home movies. He is a student at the FirstPresbyterian Pre-Kindergarten three mornings a week. Kevan was fouryears old last month.

Some major changes are taking place inside the theatre. First of all,an electrical firm is finishing up a major wiring job. This expense hasbeen considerable, but of course, proper lighting in a theatre is veryimportant, both on-stage and off. The theatre is being completely rewired.
