Energy Legislation
Carbon Reduction Commitment
Started as a Carbon Trading Scheme, but changed into a
Carbon “Tax” by the current government.
The Council has to pay a an amount set by the UK
Government per tonne of CO2 it produces.
Most recently approximately £16/Tonne
The latest amount payable was about £160,000.

Local Policies & Initiatives
Carbon Management Plan
B&NES has produced it’s own
Carbon Management Plan which
set targets to reduce our own
emissions by 30% during 2009

Savings To Public Purse
Cost Savings to Council/Public
By reducing our own energy consumption, we reduce
our costs which in turn can free up finances to support
front line services and potentially reduce the burden on
the Council Tax payer.
