How Bathroom Taps Operate?The major components of the bathroom taps are Ceramic disc and spindle through which the inner mechanism of a tap operates. Ceramic disc technology is technologically superior and are more durable and are available in expensive taps. In this technology the turning of lever results in the parting of the ceramic disc which allows the pouring of water. The traditional spindle design consist of spindle through the core, with the valve seat attached via a screw thread. At the end of the valve seat tap washer is fixed. The turning of the knob results in the moving of the valve seat up and down to adjust the flow of water.

Typically globe valves are made of metallic alloys, although some synthetic materials are available. These materials are chosen based on pressure, temperature, controlled media properties. Corrosive and/or erosive process streams may require a compromise in material selection or exotic alloys or body coatings to minimize these material interactions and extend the life of the valve or valve trim components. Typically, carbon steel alloys are specified for noncorrosive applications. Other alloys such as Hastelloy, Monel, Inconel and others are available.

Packing material must also be considered during valve selection. Typically the requirement for a low friction packing conflict with a durable material that will provide low maintenance requirements during service life. Corrosive applications can further complicate packing material selection as the typical packing materials may or may not be compatible with the processed materials. Typically graphite or PTFE is used due to its low friction coefficient. Enviro-seal applications also have the availability of constant applied force (live-load) packing. While more complex, it allows for constant packing force load throughout the life of the packing material. This packing helps meet contemporary environmental laws.

Material

A material is a .vmt ("Valve Material Type") text file that defines a two-dimensional surface. It contains all of the information needed for Source to simulate the surface visually, aurally, and physically.

The contents of a material will fall into some or all of these categories:

1. Texture names 2. Physical surface types 3. Shader parameters 4. Fallbacks 5. Proxies

A simple example

This is a very basic shingle beach material.

1. The LightmappedGeneric shader is used, which means that the material is for use on surfaces with lightmaps (i.e. brushes).

2. The { character opens a set of parameters

3. The $basetexture parameter is given with coast\shingle_01, which is the location of a texture. This is what will be drawn on the screen.

4. $surfaceprop gives the material the physical properties of gravel. 5. The } character closes a set of parameters

It's important to remember that this material can only be used on brushes. If it needed to be used on models, for instance, another version would need to be created using the VertexLitGeneric shader.

Most of the time switching materials from one shader to another is as simple as changing their first line, since a great number of parameters are shared between them. Some params only work with certain shaders, like Phong effects, which are only available with VertexLitGeneric, but fortunately you won't encounter any critical errors if a param isn't understood by the shader. It just won't have any effect.

Tip:If you ever need to use a space or tab character in a parameter value, you must wrap the

whole value with "quote marks". You'll often see absolutely everything wrapped like this - save yourself some typing, as that's unnecessary.

Finding materials

Materials are stored in the materials\ folder of your game or mod. The best way to browse them is from Hammer's texture selection screen.

If you want to edit or view the code of Valve's material files you will first need to extract them from their GCF package with GCFScape. They tend to be stored in GCFs with 'materials' in their name.

How is Tap Water Produced?

What is the water-purification treatment process?

The water in rivers or dams is used as tap water. The water of rivers, like Han River and Nakdong River, or the water collected in dams like Paldang Dam becomes the raw material of tap water we drink at home. Making the water of rivers or the water collected in dams into clean tap water is called ‘the water- purification treatment process’, which usually goes through 6 steps: water-intake, flocculation, precipitation, filtering, sterilization, and water-supply.

Water-intake, the first step to clean tap water

In order to make the water of rivers or damps into safe tap water, the water of rivers and reservoirs should be sent to a water-purification treatment plant. The facility that plays the role of sending the water of rivers or dams to a water-purification treatment plant is called a water-intake plant. The water-intake plant has tools that can check the conditions of water, which check whether water is healthy or not. The water collected in a water-intake plant is sent to a water-landing basin. When water is taken from damps or rivers, sand or pebbles can be mixed in the water. A water-landing basin sinks the sand and pebbles down. After sand and pebbles are sunken down, the water goes through the water-purification treatment process and then, clean tap water can be obtained.

Flocculation, Making invisible foreign materials into a big lump

River water contains invisible small substances in addition to sand and pebbles. In order to remove them, we put a flocculant into it. A flocculant has the property of being stuck to small substances. Put a flocculant into water and stir well, and the flocculant will get stuck to foreign materials and the foreign materials with the flocculant will get tangled so they become a big lump. By doing this, foreign materials in water can be separated out.

Precipitation, Sinking the lumps of foreign materials and

changing them to clean water

Leave muddy water untouched, and the small soil granules will sink down and only the clean water will remain on the top. Precipitation means sinking down the lumps of foreign materials which are combined with a flocculant. The sunken foreign-material lumps move to a precipitate-treatment plant through the pipe installed at the bottom, and the clean water on the top moves to the next process. The lumps at the bottom are called sludge and this sludge is reused as a material for cement after water is removed from it.

Filtration, Making clean tap water by use of a filter paper

In class, you might have experimented to filter impurities from water, using a filter paper. Filtration goes through the similar process with this. A difference from the class is that sand and pebbles coming from some clean areas of Korea are used instead of a filter paper. The water which is filtrated by use of the sand and pebbles of clean areas is clean enough for us to drink. However, in order to become the tap water that everyone can drink safely, it should go through the following process.

Sterilization, A preventive injection to keep clean tap water

You may hear that tap water has ‘tap water smell’. The origin of this smell is the chlorine that is used in the process of sterilization. The reason why chlorine is used in the water-purification treatment process is to protect tap water from being infected by germs that it may meet while going through a water supply pipe and a faucet. Chlorine is a strong shield that protects tap water from the attack of germs until it arrives at home through a water supply pipe. Just as we receive a preventive injection not to catch a cold, tap water receives the help of chlorine to be protected from the threat of germs.

Water-supply, The last journey of clean and fresh water for us

The water which has completely gone through the sterilization process is sent to homes, schools, and many others. A water reservoir is the place that water is stored. A water reservoir is located higher than surroundings. It is located out of people’s reach so water can be protected clean from various pollutants. In addition, water flows down from a high place so it is easy to transport. The process of transporting the water in a water reservoir to schools, companies, and others is water-supply. Water-supply is the last step that river water goes through to arrive at us as clean tap water.
