FOCUS ON READING Every “Scoop” week we will be focussing on ‘Super Six’ comprehension strategy. These strategies will be used in every classroom from Kindergarten to Year 12. It is our hope that our reading skills improve.

Super Six Strategy-Visualising Learners create a mental image from a text read/viewed or heard. Visualising brings the text to life, engages the imagination and uses all of the senses.

The capacity to learn is a gift; The ability to learn is a skill;

The willingness to learn is a choice.

Glorious autumnal weather, large numbers of students receiving awards at the Principal’s assembly and around 25% of the student body participating in ANZAC Day services in Batlow and Adelong. Hopefully next year all those students who attended but walked along the route from the sidelines will feel inspired to march with their fellow students as a part of their school. Many thanks to the parents who have already put their hand up to be part of our volunteer program we will be in touch shortly. There is still time to let us know so don’t be shy. Another reminder about NAPLAN coming up in Week 4 for Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school. A reminder that the next P&C meeting is the Annual General Meeting and will take place on the 15 May NOT 8 May as previously advertised. Congratulations to all students for their participation in our school cross country carnival and to the staff for their ongoing support of this event. Special thanks to the organisational work of Ms Tara Arnall and Mr Brad Gorman. Well done, to all. Special congratulations to Claire Schuller for achieving runner-up in the Tumut Festival of the Falling Leaf poetry competition, what a great effort! It is always wonderful to see our students extending themselves in this way. Have a safe weekend. Michael Rathborne, Principal

Cross country Last week Batlow Technology held the annual cross country at the Batlow golf course. We were blessed with some fantastic weather for the day after a miserable, wet and cold ANZAC day. It was great to see all students from K-12 competing in the endurance event with some immense support from parents and carers. We had some amazing results in both the girls and boys events with Jack Gould and Brandon Hawkins setting some very competitive times. It was evident that some students had been working on their fitness over the school break, Sophia Kirkby, Brendan Larson and Gelske Vanderland came storming home over the finish line. A big thank-you to all staff, students and parents who assisted on the day. Without your support, days such as these are not successful and the enjoyment factor is lost, keep up the good work. Primary cross country zone carnival will be on Friday 25 May 2012 in Batlow, notes will be sent home stating further information. Mr Gorman Stage Three teacher
