IntroduCtIonImmortals have never had to fear death. That’s about to change…You had begun to believe the war, pain and suffering would last forever. Finally, with the help of your people, the wise Greeks, you obliterated the once powerful Aztec nation and realised every god’s dream: absolute control over Eden. However, compassion or arrogance moved you to leave a handful of Aztecs alive – a mistake that may prove to be your downfall. If you’d deigned to notice when the survivors formed a cult and began sacrificing their fallen comrades’ bodies to create a new god, you would have smiled at such pitiable efforts. You would have trusted in the knowledge that corpses are a poor sacrifice and that no god had ever been created purely from death – it couldn’t work. At first, it didn’t.With everything they knew destroyed, the Aztecs had nothing to distract them from their purpose. Holding ceremonies around Totems – shrines to their departed tribesmen – they chanted and offered up more bodies. Heads tilted back and eyes glazed, they screamed in prayer. Then, with a flash, the sky tore open and let a new ruler into their lives – an unalterably evil god, born from death and holding the power to control it.Now, as the new god reaches into the earth, he finds one rotting Creature and countless human bodies and skeletons. With these weapons at his disposal – torn from their graves and marching as zombie puppets – the peoples of Eden can be controlled, can be crushed. Will you let this dark force wipe you from history? You must master new skills and technologies quickly to stand a chance in the impending fight for your very existence:• Take control of a new Creature – the Turtle – or import your faithful aide

from Black & White® 2.• Employ four new Miracles to resurrect the dead, create floods of burning

lava and turn your enemies into harmless livestock. Prove your skill with Expert Miracle Mode.

• Use new combat techniques – raise your own skeleton platoon to help you battle the Aztec armies of the walking dead and the Undead Gorilla. Learn to use the terrain around you in battle – fight for the higher ground.

• Construct new Buildings – heal your Villagers in the Hospital, boost your supplies from the Abattoir and strengthen your armies with the Blacksmith’s.

• Create new Embellishments – raise your own livestock in animal pens and Pig Sties. Create a beautiful and thriving metropolis with Dovecotes, Flagpoles and signposts.

• Face new Challenges and confront the dark face of Eden.Note: This manual contains information about the features that are new to Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods. For information about the controls, gameplay, units and Buildings that this game has in common with Black & White® 2, see the Black & White® 2 manual.

maIn menuFrom the Main menu you can continue your current game, start a new game or load a saved one. You can also change your Profile, adjust game options or exit Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods.

sEtting up a profilE anD starting a gamEThe first time you load the game, you are prompted to create a Profile. Enter the name you want to use, then click OK.• To create further Profiles, or switch to a different Profile, click Change

Profile in the Main menu.To start playing Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods, click New Game. Click on one of the six available Creatures to meet them and listen to your Spiritual Advisors’ comments. If you decide to choose a Creature, click on the tick. To choose a different Creature, click on the cross.• If you wish to import your loyal helper from Black & White® 2, click Load a

Creature, select a Black & White® 2 save game and the statistics for your old Creature will be displayed. Click the tick to confirm.

• If you later decide to start another new game, with a different Creature (whilst keeping your old Creature’s progress), create a new Profile and start your new game with this Profile.

At the Select Your Tribute screen, choose the Alignment you wish to begin the game with – Good, Custom or Evil – by clicking on the appropriate section of the divided screen. The Buildings, Miracles and Creature upgrades this option includes are shown onscreen, as well as your starting Alignment and how much Tribute you begin with.Click on the tick to confirm your selection and the game begins.

select your tributeAre you friendly and giving or ferocious and greedy? With the Select Your Tribute screen you can have your Tribute spent for you on appropriately good or evil items. Set on the path towards your chosen Alignment, you can jump right into helping or hurting your minions and preparing for the impending war.• If you haven’t decided which way you want to go yet, or you wish to be

neutral in the game, don’t worry: select Custom to start with lots of Tribute to spend entirely as you see fit when you enter Eden.

Note: your decision at this stage does not lock you into an Alignment. Think of this useful little feature as a helping hand to guide you in the direction of your choice. With your Tribute spent it would be harder to buy the things you would need if you decided to change Alignment but you can always earn more Tribute by taking over towns, winning lands and completing challenges.

PlayIng the gameIn your battle for survival you can use everything at your disposal in the original Black & White® 2 (for full details, see the Black & White® 2 manual), as well as an arsenal of new features. New Buildings (see p. 10) and Embellishments (see p. 11) improve the appearance of your town and keep your Villagers healthy and safe. New Miracles (see p. 12) give you divine powers to fill your people and your enemies with awe. Your ultimate weapon, the Creature (see below), can now take a new form – a thick-skinned, hard-headed, indomitable little beast.

your CreatureThe line up of Cow, Tiger, Ape, Wolf and Lion is swelled by the arrival of the armour-plated Turtle, making your choice of a Creature to help you in your quest even harder. Whoever you pick, just remember that the Aztec god has a fierce opponent for them – the vile and ferocious Undead Gorilla.

thE turtlESome turtles spend all their time hidden safely in their shells but this new Creature is more likely to be found entertaining your Villagers. Not just a clown, the Turtle can build structures and gather resources as well as any Creature. Perhaps most importantly in this cruel new Eden, he can be a mean green fighting machine when roused. Treated well and taught wisely, the Turtle can grow to be an industrious workhorse, your most loyal follower and a powerful ally in the battle of the gods.

ConstruCtIon

BuilDingsThree important new structures are available in Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods – the Hospital, the Abattoir and the Blacksmith’s.

hospitalBeing near a Hospital helps Villagers and soldiers to recuperate from their injuries and ailments.Having Hospitals in your town also encourages people to look after themselves, increasing everyone’s life expectancy.

• Kind gods want their people to be well – building Hospitals will push your Alignment towards good.

abattoirThe Abattoir is a new source of food for your hungry subjects. Animals can be sent there for slaughter, creating meals without the hard work of harvesting crops.

• Building an Abattoir to kill friendly beasts will not please your good Advisor and will shove you towards an evil Alignment.

Blacksmith’sA Blacksmith’s is a vital new tool in creating mighty armies, bringing a highly skilled level of craftsmanship to the work of forging weapons. If you build a Blacksmith’s in your town, any new armies you recruit will be created with a higher level of experience.

• Blacksmiths are honest workers but they make sharp implements for hurting people. So building a Blacksmith’s has a negative effect on your Alignment.

Hospital 12-18 4,000/1,500 150,000

Abattoir 8-12 1,000/400 100,000

Blacksmith’s 4-6 3,000/1,500 150,000

Capacity: Be aware that the Capacity of some Buildings, including the Hospital and Abattoir, can vary according to which Buildings neighbour them. For example, placing a Hospital next to another Hospital will increase both Buildings’ maximum Capacity, allowing them to heal more Villagers.

EmBEllishmEntsUse the new Flagpole, signposts, animal pens, Dovecote and Pig Sty to make your town a more interesting place to live. Note: don’t forget – embellishments are not just decorative; they can also influence the mindset of your people and encourage immigration, as well as affecting your Alignment.

flagpoleIf your people are feeling patriotic, they’ll love one of these. Flying a flag in your town gives Villagers a feeling of pride in their achievements.

signposts

When Villagers know where to find everything in their town, they’re less likely to get lost. That means that business runs smoothly and resources are kept well stocked. There are three different types of signpost: Single Signpost, Double Signpost and Crossroads Signpost. The more information a signpost carries, the greater its positive effect on your town.

small animal pen and large animal penA great way to stop your livestock from wandering off. Pens mean you’ll always have a good supply of beasts for the Abattoir. Of course, a bigger pen means space for more animals.

DovecoteBuilding one of these encourages birds to roost in your town. It cheers people up to have a few little feathered friends flapping around.

pig styDo you think your Villagers might appreciate some sausages, bacon or gammon? Build a Pig Sty to give them more choice in what they eat. It’s nice to have a bit more life around the place too (fortunately, mortals are used to bad smells).

mIraClesPrepare to dazzle your subjects in incredible new ways with the addition of Verdant, Death, Life and Lava to your repertoire of Miracles. Just remember – casting some of these may have an influence on your Alignment.

verdantVerdant allows you to turn the enemy into a harmless group of animals. If you were short of food, and that way inclined, you might choose to drop these animals into the Abattoir…

• This Miracle is neutral but letting your people snack on transformed enemy soldiers certainly isn’t!

lavaLava allows you to throw or pour lava. A wonderfully direct way to influence the world, the lava is obviously extremely hot and will set fire to pretty much anything it touches.

• You can use lava in a number of ways. Most of them are evil…

lifeThe appearance of the new undead god in Eden has blurred the line between life and death, meaning that you now have some power over mortality.Life grants you the power to restore life to the dead – but only the recently deceased.

On the other hand, putting life back into enemy troops turns the undead into the just plain dead, so is a great way to destroy them.

• As benevolent an act as resurrecting departed innocents can only boost your goodness. A great way to polish your halo!

• Destroying the undead is a neutral act.

DeathDeath raises a formidable platoon of skeletons. They are a powerful weapon but have a limited lifespan, dying out in sixty seconds. While they last, these terrifying warriors can be used to defend your town or attack the enemy.

Giving life to long dead corpses sucks energy from the living in the area, so casting this Miracle harms any Villagers or soldiers nearby.• Creating pitiless squads of undead killing machines is, unsurprisingly, likely

to push you towards the side of evil.Note: it is perhaps rather fortunate, given how dangerous some of these new Miracles are, that they are all too advanced for your creature to perform. so how they are used – and who is blessed or cursed with them – is entirely up to you.

ComBat• In Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods, war strategy is more important than

ever. Attacking uphill is a very dangerous tactic. The enemy has a distinct advantage if you let them have the higher ground – always try to be above them in battle to take control of the fight.

• Utilise the new troops at your disposal – the skeletons. Created using the Death Miracle, these warriors don’t last very long, so time their creation wisely to maximise the impact. They may not be blessed with much muscle but, if you are evil, their brutality can swing a battle in your favour.

• Remember that the enemy also has new weapons for his mission to wipe you out – the ruthless zombie and skeleton units. The only limit to his deployment of soulless fighting machines is his supply of resources…

hInts and tIPsNote: The manual for Black & White® 2 has a large list of hints and tips which also apply to Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods.

miraclE tips

improving your miracle casting:• Pressing m puts the last Miracle cast straight into your hand again; this is

very useful if you want to use the same Miracle again quickly.

city tipsBuild Wisely:

• Remember that the spacing of Buildings and good city layout is crucial to your people’s happiness.

• Purchase the new Blacksmith’s Building and construct as many as you can (up to 10) to increase the experience level of any troops you create.

Defending your town tipsBasic defence:

• Build Walls! This is your first line of defence. Enemy troops cannot penetrate your town without Catapults or an enemy Creature present.

• Keep your Mana charged so you are ready to defend your town.• If you want to defend your city without resorting to more evil measures, the

Verdant Miracle is the perfect weapon.

• Rocks are rather handy for destroying enemy Catapults. Try to build a large Building near your Walls so the influence from it will stretch far over the other side. This will allow you easy access to god-repair your Walls and also, on occasion, drop large rocks on top of enemy units or Catapults.

• Archers placed on Walls will damage any enemy troops who come near.• Use your Creature to defend your town when needed. Creatures are very

good at distracting enemy troops or bunching them into better sized targets for your godly powers.

Advanced defence:

• Use the Shield Miracle to defend your Buildings and units. To cast the Shield correctly, pick up the Miracle and then press the Action Button to cast it. After a second or so a small ring will appear. This represents the size of the shield. To increase the size of the shield, drag the mouse to the right. This works in the same way as when recruiting platoons – moving the mouse further from the circle will create a bigger shield, while moving it to the middle will create a smaller shield. With practice, this can be cast quickly and will protect a large section of your town while it lasts.

combat tipsHow To Be An even Better General:

• Level up your Platoons – as in Black & White® 2, soldiers gain experience from every battle they win and every town they capture. In Black & White® 2: Battle of the Gods you can also build a Blacksmith’s. Each one gives a level’s boost of experience to any troops created from that point on.

Master The New Tactics in Battle:

• Taking the high ground in combat situations is well advised. Make sure your troops are the ones fighting downhill.
