CREATE DANCE HISTORY CREATE A MEMORY
Fredericksburg, Virginia Vol. V No. 3
I am writing this as our summer
unfolds. The newsletter brings
you the latest in our club and fel-
low club events. - Some of our
members went to the Spring SOS
in N. Myrtle Beach and had a
great time. We can count on
good representation from Freder-
icksburg for sure. It is such a
pleasure to get away to a 10 day
party! During the past weeks we
have had bands come to the
‘burg and many of us had a date
night to go and dance to their
tunes. Now, as we go into our
summer we want to wish every-
one good times, fabulous vaca-
tions and continued dancing
wherever you go. - Father’s Day
is June 16 and we want to wish
all of our fathers and grandfa-
thers well deserved celebrations.
Mothers Day passed us by since
our last newsletter, but we want
to also honor our mothers and
grandmothers. Family unity
with cherished members make
up our foundations, please keep
them strong. - We plan to have a
summer picnic in early July
pending location certainty. We
will send out the date as soon as
it is firm. - We are excited to
share with you that our BBC
Board presented an original
painting of a Moose to our dance
home the Moose Lodge #1655.
The painting was donated to us
by a BBC friend, Ms. Brigitte
Causey. What a special evening
that was. The Moose officials
were delighted and grateful. It
will be hanging in the Moose
Lodge for everyone’s pleasure.
Thank you Brigitte! Please see
the relevant article in the news-
letter with more details. We are
fortunate to have the Moose
Lodge as our dance venue. They
are good to us and the
opportunity is rare.
Please let them know
when you have a
chance that we appreciate their
hospitality. -Don’t forget to get
your SOS cards to go to the Fall
Migration in N. Myrtle from
9/12-21. You can go for as short
or as long as you wish. It is a lot
of fun and so refreshing! The
Fun Monday tickets are now
available. Please check with a
Board member to get your tick-
ets. The tickets are $10 each,
with 4 chances to win $250—
$7,500. A portion of the pro-
ceeds go to “Caring for Kids. -
”Make a note: the Northern Va.
Shag Club Capital Classic is
8/15-16. A great party! And,
save the date for our BBC sec-
ond Sunset Toast party on 10/12.
We will begin ticket sales soon.
Don’t forget to bring in your si-
lent auction items each dance
night to help with our Silent Ac-
tion at our Sunset party. If you
have questions on this, just let
me know. We will keep you up
to date through our Bugle Call
notices, just stay tuned for hap-
penings. So, keep the spirit and
let the good times roll!

How exciting! Ms. Brigitte Causey a friend of the BBC donated a painting of a Moose entitled “Morning Watch” to the BBC. In turn with her encouragement the BBC bestowed the painting to the Moose Lodge #1655 where the BBC calls home. As background, Ms. Causey’s uncle is the artist, so in honor of Ms. Causey’s husband, George Edward Causey she wanted to give the painting to the BBC and the Lodge. The painting is circa 1936 depicting a majestic moose surveying the vista of a new day. The artist, Ms. Causey’s uncle, is Karl Grosse-Sattelmair of Munich, Germany best known for his beautiful landscape depictions of his home country. The BBC wanted to present it to the Moose Lodge #1655 in appreciation for its hospitality for allow-ing the BBC to hold its dances at the Lodge in the community room. Many of the BBC members al-so have become Moose members. The BBC wants the Moose Lodge members to enjoy the painting for many years and look forward to seeing it on the wall for everyone’s pride and pleasure.

Congratulations! On March 1, 2019 the newest members of the Beach Music DJ
Hall of Fame were inducted at Fat Harold's Beach Club in N.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Included was Jim Rose, one of
NVSC’s former deejays.
Originally from Fredericksburg, VA, Jim now resides in North
Myrtle Beach, SC. Jim has been interested and involved in music
since the 60s, spinning his first vinyl record for a party in 1968
and
playing in a few bands. Collecting vinyl and DJing is a passion for
Jim. He loves to play the music and make people happy. Jim has
played in every club on Main Street in North Myrtle. You’ll find
him now at Ducks during SOS. He also plays at shag club events
from Virginia down to Florida.
Jim’s radio show, “The Rhythm of the Beach” is a collection of
old
and new favorites ranging from the 1940s up to some of today’s
hits with emphasis on Soul and Rhythm & Blues. Some of the
past
shows have included Rat Pack Afternoon, Strictly Northern Soul,
Tribute to The Boulevard Grill, Tribute to The Bushes, Tribute to
the Jolly Knave and a Smoothies show.
Tune in for some of the best shag music around!
Jim and his wife Carolyn show off the award
We regret that this recognition is not timely but we are truly proud of Jim and his accomplishments. Early in his Freder-icksburg music days in providing music whenever he could, both for free and to just cover the music he loves, Jim was in-strumental in our shag mania in Freder-icksburg, He started showing up at local clubs to play for those interested enthusi-asts and began a gathering of folks that stuck with him. Then along came the be-ginnings of the Battlefield Boogie Club. Thank you Jim for planting a seed that helped us wake up Fredericksburg. We are proud of you and continue to sup-port and love your music! Battlefield Boogie Club Fredericksburg, Va. Thank you to Northern Virginia Shag Club for this very nice write up recognizing Jim Rose! We share in the pride!
