If you are evaluation bbkRC, your bbk DOS Race Program License will entitle you to make a 90-day evaluation license. If you do not have a bbk DOS race Program license, you will be able to make a 30-day evaluation license. Once these evaluation licenses have expired, you will need to purchase a license from bbk Software Ltd, if you wish to continue using bbkRC. We recommend that you copy your bbk DOS Race Program files to the PC you have installed bbkRC on, or onto a floppy disk, or other data interchange device, ready for the next stage. This manual describes the facilities in bbkRC and is aimed at new and potential users of bbkRC. Use the left hand margin for notes and reminders.

4 Importing from bbk DOS Race Programs

Press the Setup System Button on the left hand buttons of the Main Screen and then select Import V1.6 Data. You will see the Load Data screen:

Check the boxes on the right hand side as above. Note the Meeting box is not checked; we already created our first meeting, which will be loaded from your DOS Race Program. You can then select the location of your Data and Membership File. Users of ARCSPlus and DRIVERS had a facility to share a common driver database with a number of Race Meetings. This facility is built into bbkRC, but when importing, you may have to specify both. If you have ARCS/PC, bbk Club or never had a separate Member Directory, browse the same location for the Member File Directory. The top 2 buttons on the right hand “Load From” box are common locations for bbk DOS Race Program data. If this is where your data is, press the appropriate button, otherwise press the buttons to the right of the entry boxes to browse. Remember to specify the location of both Data and Membership file. When you have selected the correct location, Load button will be enabled. Press it and as the data is loaded the check boxes will clear, and you will see the status information under the Setup System Button update.

5 Setting up AMB Equipment AMB20

Setting bbkRC up for use with AMB20 Systems is very straightforward. You will need to connect your AMB20 Decoder to your computer for this procedure. Run the Test AutoCount Equipment option from the Equipment Button on the left hand buttons of the Main Screen. Select the Test AMB20 tab and press the Find AMB 20 Button. The serial ports on the PC will be checked and if one is found connected to an AMB20 Decoder, that serial port (e.g. Com 1) will be loaded into the Drop Down in the Button Bar at the top of the screen. If you have more than 1 AMB20 decoder connected to serial ports, all relevant serial ports will be put in the dropdown, and you can select the one you want. When a Serial Port has been established, the Start AMB20 Button will be enabled. You can start the AMB20 and you will see

“heartbeat” messages every second. If you pass transponders over a loop connected to the Decoder, they will register with their passing times. When you set up for a Race Meeting, connect the AMB20 to same serial port you tested with, and everything should be OK. If you change the serial port you connect to, run this procedure again.

If you have difficulties, check the last section in this Chapter “Why does it not work!”.

AMBrc Setting up for the AMBrc System is a bit more complicated if you have Rechargeable Transponders. You will need to charge these up for this procedure, but as you only need them working for a few minutes, they only need half an hours charge Run the Test AutoCount Equipment option from the Equipment Button on the left hand buttons of the Main Screen. Select the Test AMBrc tab and press the Find AMBrc Button. The serial ports on the PC will be checked and if one is found connected to an AMBrc Decoder, that serial port (e.g. Com 1) will be loaded into the Drop Down in the Button Bar at the top of the screen. If you have more than 1 AMBrc decoder connected to serial ports, all relevant serial ports will be put in the dropdown, and you can select the one you want.

- 10 -

When a Serial Port has been established, the Start AMBrc Button will be enabled. You can start the AMBrc and you will see “heartbeat” messages every five seconds. If you have Rechargeable Transponders, pass one set over the loop

a few times. Do not put Personal Transponders anywhere near the loop at this time. This is very important! If you do, you are just making yourself extra work! Press the Stop AMBrc Button. Exit from Test AMBrc. Select Edit/View Transponders from the Equipment Button on the left hand buttons of the Main Screen. You will see a screen similar to the

one below, except the transponder number will be different! bbkRC now knows about one set of your Rechargeable Transponders.

We are now going to assign the Rechargeable Transponders to Groups. This makes handing out Rechargeable Transponders very straightforward. When you set up races, bbkRC will assign a Group Transponder to competitors who don’t have Personal Transponders. The competitor can pick up ANY transponder in that group, and it will detect correctly. They can even change transponders (in the same group) during a race and they will continue to count. If you are running a Team Endurance race this is very useful.

bbkRC Installation Guide Rev 0.1 October 2003

- 11 -

You should see as many transponders as you registered. If there are not enough go back and run the Test Autocount Equipment again. Once you have the correct total number you need to select them all. There are lots of ways to do this, but the easiest way is to click on a transponder then press Ctrl-A (Control key and A) and the whole list will select. Move the mouse over the selection and press the right mouse button. You will see a pop up menu, click on “Auto Assign to Group”. Select Group By to Groups and you will see tabs for all the groups assigned, usually T1 to T10. Click on one of the tabs and you will see Transponders ending in the number of the group. If you look at a Rechargeable Transponder, you will see the last digit is separated and slightly larger. Next assign a colour to you set of transponders. This will help you to identify which transponder is actually in the car. Select all the transponders on your screen again, right mouse click and assign the colour. To assign any other sets, either start Test Autocount of run Open Practice and start it by pressing F7 (or clicking the green flag). Pass over the next set. If you are running open practice you can run Select Edit/View Transponders from the Equipment Button on the left hand buttons of the Main Screen without having to stop Open Practice. Select by Groups and you will see all the “new” transponders in the “Not in Group” Tab. Select them all and Auto Assign to Group. Now the select the All Transponders Tab and Set Display to Names. The transponders not assigned a colour are grouped together. Mouse click the first, hold down the space bar and mouse select the second. The whole group will be selected and you can now assign the colour. Repeat this process if you have any more sets of rechargeable transponders.

6 Setting up Speech and Sound Testing Speech

Speech and sound are important features of bbkRC. Most new computers will have everything setup up. When bbkRC loads the Main Screen, if you have selected Speech Output as an option, you will hear a welcome message. If not check the following: The PC has a Sound System The Volume is up and not muted There are speakers attached If you don’t get speech, it may be because the Microsoft Speech Software is not installed. It comes as standard on PCs with Windows 2000, ME and XP. We have included the Microsoft Speech SDK on the bbkRC CD. You will find it in a Directory called “Distributions\MS-SAPI-SDK4.0a” and is called “sapi4sdksuite.exe”. Run this to install the Speech SDK.

Testing Sound You should select Option Race Sounds via PC. The option Race Sounds via AMBrc is not available yet. When it is, the sounds, but not speech, will be via the headphone socket of the AMBrc. This will make connection of Race Sounds to a separate Amplifier possible. Please note that the Race Sounds are produced via the Synthesiser Channel and the Speech is via the Wave Channel. You can adjust the relative volume of speech and sounds via the Volume Control.

The Volume Control can be activated by double clicking the Speaker Icon on the System Tray (Second from Left in this example).
