NRC Town Hall:2018 Budget and Future of Amenities

Lion and extraordinary chef, Jerry Clemmer, fried up over 300 catfish at the March Fish Fry. Don’t miss out on the last Fish Fry of 2017!

The NRC will host a town hall on Thurs., October 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Harbour Pointe Clubhouse. Objectives of the town hall are to hear concerns and questions relating to the 2018 BCA Budget and the future of Brandermill’s amenities. NRC officers will mediate the conversation and are inviting BCA staff, finance commit-tee members and BCA board members to participate.

Neighbors are encouraged to attend and invited to bring questions, comments and concerns to be addressed at the meet-ing. To ensure productivity and that all residents have an opportunity to speak, NRC Chair Erin Collins will present ground rules and any necessary time limitations on speaking at the start of the event.

Sign of the Times

When my children were little, they were inexplicably hesitant around dogs…big ones, little ones, friendly, not-so-friendly. It didn’t seem to mat-ter, they were very cautious and a little uncomfortable when a dog was in the vicinity. Years later, my now older(!) boys love all animals, including dogs. I myself enjoy visiting with a certain Great Dane “puppy” as well as one of the friendliest cats in Brandermill when I’m out and about; however, recent inquiries about pets here at the office have brought some concerns to the forefront. There have been some unsettling reports lately about un-leashed dogs, unaccompanied dogs and; unfortunately, injuries to hu-mans, canines and felines. The BCA General Covenants, Part I, Paragraph 6 state:

“All animals must be kept secured by a leash or lead, or under the control of a responsible person and obedient

to that person’s command at any time they are permitted outside a house or other dwelling or other enclosed area approved by the Company for the main-tenance and confinement of animals.”

Concurrently, Chesterfield County’s Code on loose dogs reads as follows:

Sec. 4-23. - Running at large pro-hibited.

No person shall permit any dog to run at large within the county at any time during the year. The animal warden and deputy animal wardens are authorized to catch all dogs found running at large and house them in the county animal shelter.

Running at large under subsection (a) means a dog is off the property of its owner and not directly connected to its owner by a physical restraint. It does not include a dog that is engaged with its owner in lawful hunting, training for hunting or field trials in conjunction with a hunting, training or field trial

season authorized by the Virginia De-partment of Game and Inland Fisheries as long as the dog is wearing a collar with a tag showing the owner's name, address and telephone number.

Bearing this in mind, we encour-age all residents of Brandermill who own pets to act in a responsible and neighborly manner when taking their four-legged friends out for some fresh air and fun. Please keep them on a leash and refrain from allowing them to roam freely. This way, everyone can enjoy the walking paths, parks, and tree lined tranquility of Brandermill without worry. Don’t forget to make use of the Pet Waste Stations and/or pick up after your pets.

Finally, if you see an unleashed or unaccompanied dog in your commu-nity, please contact the area officer for Chesterfield Animal Control at (804) 661-6175. Thank you for your kind awareness of this important concern.

Political signs have sprouted up all over Brandermill. This is a reminder to please remove signage once the election is over.

Our PM team has noticed a great many ARB applications for improve-

ments, repairs, repainting, yard work, and efforts to reach compliance

throughout Brandermill. I am happy to take this opportunity to thank

the many residents who have responded to our notices, called to share

their improvement plans, and been so kind to understand the compliance

process as we strive to continually maintain and improve property values

while making Brandermill beautiful. We enjoy working together with our

residents and look forward to a wonderful holiday season. Happy Fall and

see you around the neighborhood!

Sunday brought about a delightful performance by Barefoot Puppet Theater, a dynamo husband-wife combo of talent on a perfect sunny, balmy afternoon with tem-perature in the mid-70’s. Families spread out blankets, set up camp chairs and pulled out snacks for their children. There were a few dogs in the mix and an overall crowd of about 60.

Professional puppeteers, Heidi and Sam have been performing all over the country in the last 20 years, and actually live in Richmond. The puppet team has veteran supporters with Brandermill families. Children were en-

gaged in the humor and story line of Trickster Tales about the tiny spider, An-ansi who defeats both a hippopotamus and an elephant in a battle of Tug-of-War. The twelve-foot stage had colorful scenery and scene changes to produce a predictable rhythm of action, words, and music. Children laughed heartily at the jokes and listened intently to the story. After the show the puppeteers came from behind the stage to display the rod puppets and explain how they were individually created with a variety of fabrics and cords to perform true to their image.

Trickster Tales entertains and educates

After the performance, Heidi and Sam answered questions about their puppets, demonstrated how they work and how they are created.
