The world leadersof library interiors. With its austere graphic design and strict geometrical lines, the new Sagrada Famlia library

contrasts dramatically with the organic architecture o Antoni Gaudis massive basilica.

Indeed, its in contrast, counterpoint and opposites that BCI Eurobib sees its big challenge

to oer libraries optimum interior urnishing regardless o period, design idiom, tradition

    or cultural trends.

Today, BCI Eurobib are world leaders in library interiors, with over sixty years o experience

in the eld. We work with leading architects, designers, and cratspeople to develop

urniture and urniture systems or the libraries both o today and o tomorrow.

We are always eager to explore new infuences, new trends. The library is no longer just

a place or books and studies, but a hub or multicultural exchange, communication and

    social events.

At the same time the library is a space or contemplation, aording room or individual

study and refection. Our ambition is to be on the absolute cutting edge o library technology, to meet and

respond to the needs and developments o libraries, whether in planning the interior o the

local school library or designing custom urniture or a new international research centre.

The new Sagrada Famlia library in Barcelona is just one o many projects weve been

involved in around the world in 2007. This broschure will help give you a ew ideas o the

sort o things we can and want to achieve. We hope youll be inspired.

With its strict geometrical orm, the new library is the

very antithesis o Antoni Gaudis organic cathedral

    building in the background.

The austerity o the exterior is refected in the

interior, although inside the library the design is warmly

welcoming. The BCI Steel Shelving System and MDF

panels o varying heights orm a sort o maze in which

the various departments o the library are linked by

vaults in the shelving itsel. Each room is given an

identity o its own by the colours o the panels at the

    rear o the shelves.

The rst school o its kind in Connecticut, the Academy o

Inormation Technology and Engineering attracts students

interested in all aspects o technology and the undamentals o

    architecture and engineering.

By using translucent components and exposed structural and

mechanical elements, the architects Fuller & DAngelo have let

the anatomy o the building visible, thus providing studentswith their rst lesson in architecture and engineering.

To urther dene this theme in the Library, the Architect

selected the BCI Opal Shelving System, which incorporates

clearly dened structural elements, glass end panels and

    exposed asteners.

The new library at Heerhugowaard has our foors, each o which has

its own distinctive atmosphere and area o specialisation.

The undamental approach was to build up the library round a

number o dierent islands, each with its own theme. The Opal

Shelving System was used as the basic unit or all shelving, which was

then supplemented as necessary with a variety o tailor-made shelving

    solutions.

Heerhugowaard is the rst library that can justiably style itsel a

library o 100 talents. Children were and still are involved in

designing the urnishing o the new youth department. The result

so ar has been attractive study acilities, comortable reading areas,

great music spots and places where you can just relax.

The library has put much eort into presenting its collections in

the orm o attractive theme islands, where both ction and non-

ction can be arranged by genres.

Today, in what used to be a shopping mall, inormation, knowledge and experiences o all sorts

are the preerred items o consumption.

Poissys new Mdiathque strives to be a living space open to everyone. The various depart-

ments overlap each other like a whisper but are still clearly identiable through their urnishings

and the ellipses in the ceiling. The overall atmosphere is created through interaction between

    orm, light and unction.

The shelving system is BCIs standard steel shelving system with tailor made end panels.

To meet the challenges o tomorrow, DR (Danish Broadcasting

Corporation) has transerred all its operations in the Copenhagen

area to a single address in northern restad.

In the new media and cultural building, all TV, radio, Internet and

other orms o communication will be produced and developed

    under one roo.

The DR Archive and Research Centre plays a central role in

the complex. In the library section, BCI Steel Shelving System is

used in various congurations and at varying heights to create

dynamism and a sense o spatial orientation. A large, curved shel

section orms a central plaza with the shelves acing inwards and the

posting suraces acing outwards. Angled shel sections orm two

smaller living rooms urnished with reading chairs and carpets.

A happy marriage between the 18th and 21st centuries.

In the library and mdiathque o Redon, a sense o

raw industrialism has been successully blended with a

sot, warm, classic design. The contrast between the cen-

turies has been highlighted by moving the 18th century

doorway and panelling into the present day.

Together, the two buildings have a combined library

foorage o 1,300 sqm and about 40,000 books stored

in combined BCI Oslo and Opal Shelving Systems with

    wooden ttings o white-pigmented oak.

Close to the old Barrio Gotico and next to the market

lies the new library o Sant Antoni, designed and built to

harmonise with the Casal dAvis Senior Citizens Centre.

The joint inner courtyard is open to everyone and,

with its open design and large windows, is perectly

integrated with the library. The sense o openness is

enhanced by the spacious urnishing, in which the black

BCI Steel Shelves seem to serve as simple graphic high-

lights or the wider, open space.

A refection o then and now, a mirror o the outside environment and the

    activities going on inside.

The buildings great glass aades and red roo together give Lules new

Cultural House an unmistakable appearance o its own.

The wooden roo is painted a classic Swedish Falun red using a copper-based

pigment dating back to the 16th century and deeply rooted in Swedish olk

tradition. The glass aades, through which the interior o the building is clearly

visible, give an impression o openness, o insight and space. In the library, a

specially manuactured version o Eurobibs Slimline Shelving System has been

selected to maintain the premises overall transparency and airiness.

The wood used or the shelves reappears in the specially designed study

tables, also supplied by Eurobib, as were the Luna music chair and the

    urniture or the childrens department.

In the Pays de la Loire lies the little town o Saint-Joachim, whose inhabitants

    number just under 4,000 people.

From a distance, the exterior o the new library suggests it has some sort o

agricultural connection, its open timber ramework making it look somewhat

like a barn. However, seen close up, the building shows that its much more

complex than that, both in its architecture and in its approach to construction.

The 600 sqm library was planned and built entirely in accordance with the

HQE (Haute Qualit Environnementale/High Environmental Quality) guidelines.

BCI Opal Shelving System with glass end panels was chosen to reinorce the

ambitions maniest in the design o the new library.

The Rauma public library is part o the Rauma House o Culture, which was completed in

2007 in a cooperative project run by the municipality and a group o private companies.

The large glass sections o the new library create a remarkable sense o openness and

space. A large orange background wall and accented orange urniture, including the

Luna music chair, communicate vitality and energy in both the interior and exterior.

BCI Opal Shelving System with rosted-glass end panels was selected to serve as a

    bridge between space and energy.

Having been located in temporary premises or several years, Hoensbroeks public library

has nally been given a beautiul new building o its own.

The simple lines o the BCI Steel Shelving System combined with black MDF panels all

round the units create the basic structure o the library. Extra lights have been installed

under the top shel to provide better illumination or the books. Bright colours are used as

accents and serve as highlights in the youth department.

To attract visitors, several dierent orms o presentation have been used.
