The Funding Cuts locally has not spared the Bolton Council of Mosques, with a 52% cut in the funding allocated from the local authority, this will have a big impact on the future delivery of services and more imminently the reduction of staff as the contracts come to an end at the end of March 2011.

With our Chief Officer - Yaseer Ahmed Leaving to pastures new and the contracts coming to an end for the Womens Developmet officer - Amina Atcha, Mosque and Madrasah Development officer - Moalana Waleed Shaukhat and Leadership and Community Development officer - Salma Mogradia, I would like to on behalf of the BCoM Mosque Management, Executives and staff wish them well in their future aspirations and careers.

Moving towards re-modelling the services offered by the Bolton Council of Mosques and the visioning undertaken with Mosque representatives, we are planning to concentrate our work on the following work areas going into the future :

• Mosque and Madrasah Support

• Young Women’s Work

• Forum and Volunteer Development

• Inter-faith Engagement

• Safeguarding

• Capacity building

• Male youth Development projects

• Civic Engagement and Participation

• Development of Funeral and Burial Service

Achieving the vision and work plans can only be achieved with a healthy and active bank of volunteers and community Champions. We will be working hard to engage with those who want to make a difference and collaborate to make a change. The next few years is about working with less to do more, and doing it better for the betterment of the community and the future generation.

Pray And Play With Al Jamiatul Islamiyyah - Darul Uloom Bolton

Once again BCoM managed to support a fantastic residential programme that took 30 students with 6 staff from Darul-Uloom Bolton to Water park in Coniston. The Bukhari Sharif Students with other young students aspiring to achieve to that status went through a challenging programme of activities, with still finding time to fulfil the religious elements of the programme.

The principle with other teachers joined the students to take part in water sport, Ghyll scrambling and high rope activities with a BBQ treat on the Saturday evening.

October this year will see Ghosia Mosque students taking up the challenging and team building activities.

Madrasah Guidance Document Launching Very Soon

“Children are a precious gift of the Almighty and our responsibility is to ensure we nurture, educate and instil the values to help them develop into responsible, confident and mature citizens. Our Madrasahs have for many generations played a key role in achieving this. ”The Guidance will cover Madrasah Management, Understanding and Managing Child Protection and safeguarding with sample policies, procedures and forms to adopt. The Whole Madrasah guidance package will offer a tool kit for developing the Madrasah sector further into the future.

“This guidance document aims to provide support to Madrasahs to help them adopt policies and procedures ensuring that legal and statutory responsibilities are discharged. This will enable us to create an environment where our children feel safe and enjoy learning. In a hadith, our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) states that, “he is not one of us who does not show compassion to our little ones and recognize the rights of our elders”. (Tirmidhi) ”

Funeral Vehicle

The BCoM Burial service was gifted with a customised funeral vehicle with the old vehicle moving to serve the communities in Yorkshire. Essa foundation once again supported with a top of the range fully fitted vehicle to serve the funeral and burial work in Bolton as well as generously donating another 5 vehicles to other towns and cities.

Ghusal Training

The second phase of the Burial training took place on February 16th 2011 with a mixture of new faces and regular volunteers attending. This was an opportunity for the new members to learn the ropes and for the established volunteers to ensure that they were carrying out the rituals correctly.

The training consisted of washing the deceased and the shrouding process. Maulana Mohsin, Qari Faruk and Maulana Nizamuddin attended to deliver and guide the volunteers with Maulana Mohsin taking the lead and practically delivering the training in a professional yet easy to understand manner. The volunteers were taught the method of washing the deceased and the how to prepare the kafan (shroud). Once the material was cut, Maulana Mohsin donned the kafan on a life-size dummy, making the training as realistic as possible.

The evening ended with a question and answer session where Maulana Mohsin and Maulana Nizamuddin answered a number of questions related to the washing and shrouding.

A sincere JazakAllah to Maulana Mohsin for delivering an excellent training session and also to Maulana Nizamuddin for his support and for Qari Faruk for attending.

BCOM Counselling Service

Considering the cut backs in many services throughout the local authority and health sectors, Bolton Council of Mosques is extremely pleased to announce that it’s increasingly popular counselling service will be continuing to serve the ethnic minority communities of Bolton. However the service will only be continuing on a reduced scale on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

BCOM Counselling Service was etablished over two years ago, primarily to provide a more culturally appropriate counselling service to the black and minority ethnic communities of Bolton and the surrounding areas. However we do provide a service to the white indigenous population of Bolton too.

The services offered are one to one counselling, couple counselling and specialist Islamic counselling for clients from the Islamic faith.

All counsellors are qualified in person centred therapy but work with an eclectic approach with the core conditions of empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence.

The counselling service is a member of the British association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and we adhere to their ethics and code of good practice.

Counselling sessions can be conducted in English, Urdu or Gujarati for people experiencing any issues.
