Safety Advisor Location: Positions available in both Edmonton and Rocky View (Calgary). Employment Status: Full Time Our team is made up of talented people who are working towards a common mission to achieve worksite wellness and reduce occupational injuries and illnesses in the manufacturing industry through education, training, advocacy and partnership. About the Opportunity The Safety Advisor reports to the Northern Regional Manager or Southern Regional Manager and assists in providing key services to Manufacturers’ Health & Safety Association (MHSA) members in Alberta. These key services include the provision of safety program advice and assistance; delivery of educational and training programs; the administration of the Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) programs for MHSA companies; and the promotion of Association services. A main focus of this position is working directly with our companies to assist them in establishing their company safety programs. Skill and Knowledge Requirements: Five (5) to seven (7) years occupational health and safety training and experience in manufacturing or a related field. MHSA Peer Auditor certification is preferred but not required. Formal education in occupational health and safety (i.e. NAIT, an equivalent of education and experience may be considered). A background in Occupational Hygiene is a benefit though not required. While a professional designation is not required (i.e. CRSP), enrolment in, or completion of the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension Safety Certificate Program (or equivalent) is recommended. CSSE membership in good standing is recommended. Well‐developed instructional, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Computer experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and ability to navigate the Internet.

the Internet. Valid Class 5 Alberta Operators License and a reliable vehicle are required for business travel. A

current Alberta Standard Driver’s Abstract is required. Good working knowledge of the Alberta OH&S Act, Regulation, Code and Explanation Guide. Good working knowledge of the Alberta WCB Act, policies and programs. Good working knowledge of the Alberta PIR program. Experience with environmental issues is considered an asset. Possession of a valid and recognized Standard Level First Aid Certificate. Experience in the development and/or implementation of effective health & safety management

programs would be an asset.

Responsibilities and Related Position Duties: Daily operation and administrative functions in the MHSA office

Liaison with:o MHSA member companieso Alberta OH&So Alberta WCBo Other safety related organizations (e.g. ACSA, ENFORM, AMTA etc.)o Assist in planning and coordination of training schedules

Facilitation of the following MHSA courses:o Safety Basicso Safety Auditoro Accident Investigationo Supervisor Training (LSE)o Hazard Assessment and Analysiso Safety Awarenesso Lock Out/Tag Outo Machine Guardingo WHMISo Health & Safety Committee Guidelineso Custom Designed Courses as applicable

Provision of other MHSA services such as:o On Site Management Consultationo On Site Visitation and Inspection Services

Perform MHSA External or Internal Audits as required. Submission of relevant health & safety articles for the MHSA Safety Link newsletter. General housekeeping of the MHSA office. This is a SCENT FREE and non‐smoking facility. Active participation in NAOSH/CCOHS Week and HSCSA conference activities including

operation of the MHSA tradeshow booth Travel around Northern or Southern Alberta (expenses and mileage paid) Any other projects, duties or responsibilities assigned by the Northern Regional Manager or
