E r i c H o r n e COURTESY CLERK, PUBLIx SUPERMARKETS

I enjoy working at Publix. I get to meet new people each day. I help them by bagging their groceries and telling them where they can locate items in the store. Publix is a continuing learning experience for me.

BDI encourages people to recognize their potential, grow their skills, and take pride in themselves and their work.

For many, this transformation starts in the work adjustment program and continues in specialized job training where clients prepare for careers in specific industries. When clients are ready to join the workforce, they work with placement counselors who provide personal coaching while collaborating with community employers to match clients’ strengths with employers’ needs.

BDI’s internship program often makes the difference in the job search. With donors’ support, BDI pays an intern’s salary for up to six weeks. Interns refine their skills, gain real-world experience, and develop confidence to succeed. An intern either secures the job permanently or leverages the experience to gain a job with another business.

As BDI clients build on their strengths, they become empowered to reach their goals. BDI job placement services are available throughout metro Atlanta, and alumni clients are employed with companies including AutoTrader.com, Convergent Outsourcing and Publix Supermarkets, among many others.

W i l l i a m “ B i l l ” H a g u e EVP, INTERNATIONAL, ALLIANCES & INTEGRATIONS, AT&T MOBILITY

Bobby Dodd Institute is an invaluable partner in our recruitment efforts within the veteran community. Our international call center at BDI is an example of our shared commitment to help veterans, particularly those with disabilities, transition back into the workforce and, once again, have an opportunity to apply the skills they gained serving in our armed forces.

By helping employers recruit people with disabilities and veterans, BDI promotes diversity and inclusion, while fostering opportunities for people with disabilities to achieve self-sufficiency and participate fully in the community. In the process, employers gain capable employees who strengthen their companies’ cultures by bringing intense commitment to quality, loyalty, and enthusiasm for work.

AT&T was selected as the 2013 Employer of the Year for their commitment to employing veterans. In 2012, BDI expanded its social enterprise by partnering with Atlanta-based VetConnexx to operate a call center on behalf of AT&T at BDI’s Robert J. Freeman Campus.

Through this collaboration, AT&T and BDI have already created 32 jobs for veterans, employing people who served our country but returned to bleak job prospects and even homelessness.

BDI’s growing enterprise initiatives and emphasis on evaluation and job placement have contributed to outstanding results for BDI’s clients and community partners.

BDI helped me transition from being homeless to having a job, to being able to pay my own bills and take care of everything by myself.

BDI is poised to deepen the impact of its mission by connecting customers with quality services and partners with committed employees.

BDI continues to expand jobs within its enterprises. Facility Management now encompasses janitorial services, grounds maintenance and building maintenance.

From high-security areas to sensitive medical facilities, BDI cleans approximately 2.5 million square feet each year. Customers include federal and state government facilities as well as commercial businesses, such as Georgia Commerce Bank and Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.

BDI enlarged the scope of telecommunications in 2013 as well. In addition to the initiative with AT&T, BDI began operating the 911 call center at Fort Benning.

Growth in BDI’s social enterprises brings new jobs and opportunities for people to join the workforce and excel. In 2013, BDI employed 389 people, including 262 people with disabilities as well as veterans transitioning into the workforce and others with disadvantages and barriers to employment.

R o d n e y H a l l

D ear Friends and Supporters,Bobby Dodd Institute (BDI) continues to be a place for new possibilities and beginnings

for people with disabilities and disadvantages. In the past year, we’ve embraced new

connections to create and sustain good jobs.

We’re thinking bigger and better. With job training facilities now in Atlanta and

Jonesboro, Ga., and an energized workforce in our social enterprises, BDI is forging

pathways into the workforce for people with disabilities. And we’re doing it in more

ways than one. We connect hard-working individuals to jobs with our community

partners, while also helping employers recruit great employees with the skills and

training to succeed.

BDI continues to create jobs through growth in its social enterprises. In fiscal year

2013, we employed 389 people, including 262 people with disabilities as well as

veterans and others with barriers to employment. To meet the needs of community

businesses, our services now range from facility management, such as janitorial and

grounds maintenance, to administrative services, mailroom management, and call

center operations. We’ve invested in research and practice to develop tools for recruiting,

screening, and training veterans and veterans with disabilities.

As a result, BDI partnered with Atlanta-based VetConnexx in 2012 to operate an

international customer support call center on behalf of AT&T. The call center employs

32 veterans and veterans with disabilities. BDI recruits veterans and collaborates with

VetConnexx to provide job training and manage operations for the call center. The

partnership reflects our shared commitment to helping veterans reenter the workforce.

It’s just one of the ways in which we’re connecting everyone to opportunity, and

measuring our impact one person, one job at a time.

Your support, in fiscal year 2013, helped BDI serve 1,077 people with job training,

employment opportunities, or other support. We connected 276 people with jobs, an

increase of 101% from the previous year. Eighty-nine percent of clients placed in jobs

by BDI’s career services team retained their jobs for 90 days or more.

Thank you for your belief in BDI’s mission and your shared commitment to helping

people with disabilities gain the dignity of work and the security and purpose work

brings. Together, we will continue to create new connections and opportunities for

people with disabilities in 2013 and in the years ahead.
