HIGHER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

2 Greene King Level 4 Higher Management Programme Greene King Level 4 Higher Management Programme 3

SUITABLE FOR GENERAL

MANAGERS

LEVEL 4 HIGHER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMEThe ILM Level 4 Management Diploma is a challenging qualification designed to stretch and develop managers. It is important that you are aware of the support you will need to give to your managers before nominating them onto programme. Whether this is providing guidance on performance improvement and change to support with their projects and assignments, or setting development targets to enable their growth – you have a key role to play.

WHO’S IT FOR?This qualification is for all General Managers, or equivalent who have ambitions to develop their career within Greene King. This may be taking on a larger pub or progressing to the next level. The course will provide a better understanding of themselves as leaders and offer the tools to manage their own professional development.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?Equivalent to a foundation degree, this qualification requires a high level of commitment and dedication. To take part in this programme, your managers will need to be nominated by you as someone who has the potential and desire to progress.

The programme is delivered over 15 months and by the end they will have gained a Level 4 Diploma in Management, certified through ILM – the leading awarding organisation for management qualifications.

When nominating someone for this course, you are agreeing that they can complete the following:

A total of ten off-site classroom and study days

A suite of assignments and projects, requiring a commitment of 20 hours study per month

On the job observations and coaching

PRE-CLASS WORK:In preparation for class sessions, learners on programme will be required to regularly complete distance learning activities. All pre-work is mandatory and directly links into each class. Completing bite sized research and planning tasks helps to break down the knowledge required for these sessions into smaller, more manageable chunks. It also forms a number of class activities and discussions to ensure learning has been embedded.

ASSIGNMENT AND PROJECT WORK:Throughout the qualification, learners will complete a series of written assignments and projects. The assignments will be based on their ongoing objectives, set in their PDRs. This means they’re directly linked and contextualised to the job role, giving them the tools to analyse their business, formulating plans and ideas to drive it forward. These projects will require authority to make changes within the workplace to develop and improve business performance. This will need to be supported by you, so please ensure you provide this guidance to your manager while they are on programme.

CLASS AND STUDY DAYS:Attendance at class and study days are mandatory. Class days are taught sessions run by a Lifetime Trainer and Learning Consultant designed to deliver the knowledge elements of the qualification. Study days have also been scheduled throughout the programme to follow-up on class sessions. These are at times and places away from busy sites, where learners can study together.

Remember you are investing time in supporting your manager on this course, so it’s important that class attendance is maintained. The L&D team will provide you with regular attendance updates. Managers on programme will also be eligible to claim wage credits to support with cover for their sites while attending the ten off-site class and study sessions.

MONITORING PROGRESSION:Time management is one of the biggest barriers to successfully progressing through this course. Work can quickly pile up if not managed, so it’s important that you support your manager to consider how this course will fit around business priorities. You’ll need to communicate well and work together to ensure they manage and keep on top of their workload, alongside their operational responsibilities. You should allocate some time every 12 weeks to catch up with both your manager and their Lifetime Trainer to discuss their learning and progression on the course. To support this an email will be circulated each Period giving an update on progression and identifying any actions needed.
