Missing Links – Regional Internet Missing Links – Regional Internet eXchange Points (IXPeXchange Points (IXPss))

Few national IXPs have been established.

Most of the established IXPs are only used for exchange of local traffic within the country.

International IP traffic within Africa is still being carried through America and Europe because the national IXPs in various African countries are not directly connected.

Regional Internet eXchange Points would tremendously reduce the amount of international bandwidth requirements and associated cost implications
