Every ten years, aſter the U.S. Census, California must re-establish the boundaries of its Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly and State Board of Equalization districts to reflect new population data and shiſting populations. The Voters FIRST Act gave this power to California citizens, ensuring that new and fair political boundaries are drawn free of special interests, politics and political influence. This is your chance to become a part of creating fair and transparent district boundaries that serve the best interests of the people of California. If you believe politics are better when all sides work together and you have a passion for civic engagement, apply to become one of 14 new 2020 commissioners. You can apply if you: Have been a registered voter since July 1, 2015. Have been registered with the same political party or registered without, or “independent” of, any political party (decline-to-state or no party preference) or with another party since July 1, 2015. Voted in at least two of the last three statewide elections. Do not have a conflict of interest. The deadline for initial applications has been extended to August 19, 2019 by 5:00 pm. California citizens who are eligible may submit an initial application online to the California State Auditor’s Office.
