Watch, listen to, or read the news Follow Hawaii news stations on Facebook or Twitter. TV: Hawaii News Now, KHON Radio: FM 92.3 KSSK, AM 1210 KZOO (Japanese), AM 1540 KREA (Korean), AM 1270 KNDI (Multi- cultural) Web: mobile.weather.gov Read your UH Alert Emails UH will send emails about potential hurricane threats. UH will send an email if campus is closed due to a hurricane. If UH is closed, HELP will also be closed. Talk to your host families or building RAs (resident advisors) If you are at a homestay, talk to your host family about emergency procedures and how to prepare for a hurricane. If you are at a dorm or apartment, talk to your building RAs or manager about safety in your building during a hurricane. Download the READY HAWAII smartphone app Includes alerts about weather and public health emergencies, maps of evacuation shelters, checklists of emergency supplies and other important information. BE SAFE! Don’t go outside during severe weather High winds and rains can cause power outages, dangerous waves, landslides, and other disasters. Do not swim in the ocean or go hiking during severe weather! Check hawaiibeachsafety.com for ocean conditions Before you go to the beach, check the condition of the ocean on this website. Go to beaches that are marked yellow. Do not go to beaches that are marked red. Only go to beaches that have a lifeguard on duty. BE READY! Prepare an emergency bag Have a bag of basic supplies in case of an emergency. In an emergency, you may need to evacuate to a shelter quickly! Basic emergency items include your identification documents, first-aid kit, flashlight, radio, batteries, water, and a whistle. In the case of a hurricane or tsunami, you should have at least 7 days worth of food and water (including water for bathing and hygiene). WRITE DOWN emergency phone numbers and contact information and keep it on you (ex. in your wallet).
