If this is your first beaded project be patient, you are learning. This project is fairly forgiving and covers the basics so you can go forward and create more intricate pieces as you practice. The amount of materials needed depends on the design and size of your piece. For this workshop, your kit includes the correct amount of everything for the class project. Your kit includes 3 bead packs- Bead pack #1 – 25 x18 mm paua shell cabochon with beads for the bezel (36 #8 Miyuki for round 1, 18 #8 Miyuki for round 2, and 18 #11 miyuki for round 3) Bead pack #2- assorted collection to stitch in and around the textured and pleated silk shibori ribbon. Bead pack #3- beads for the finished beaded edging- 80 #8 Miyuki and 40 #11. The Basic Steps to a Shibori Ribbon Bead Embroidery Project- 1. Attach your shibori ribbon to the bead embroidery foundation material by stitching it down here and there as invisibly as possible. Arrange the texture and pleating to your desire. Pull the ribbon over the edge of the base by at least 1/8”. Tack in place with tiny invisible stitches. 2. Glue your focal cabochon in place and bead a bezel around its edge. 3. Stitch decorative beading in and around the textured and pleated shibori silk. 4. Cut the ultrasuede to the size and shape of the finished piece. 5. Bead the edge to finish and apply a pinback or magbar. The Beading Details- Cabochon and bezel Glue your bezel in place with enough, but not too much glue. This means that you DO NOT want the glue to squish out the edges of the cabochon where it will prevent you from stitching your bezel close to the cabochons edge and make it difficult to push your needle through the foundation. I also like to cut a little slit in the silk so the cabochon is actually being glued to the embroidery base as well. While the glue is drying, get out your bead pack # 1 and count your beads into 3 piles- 36 #8, 18#8 and 18 #11. Thread up your beading needle and knot. You are going to be beading an even count peyote stich bezel with 3 rows.
